No but he should of buried it and that's what he has to do, not just for England but for City in this coming season, or else he will find himself behind Mahrez.
You think he "should have" a 100% conversion rate? That's not just what he's there to do. You are getting confused with Kane.

He had two chances, but no doubt the one where he was ruled offside after the event doesn't count for you

As it happens, no, as it appeared to me he briefly looked over to the line as he was running through, before hitting it at the keeper, so imo he was expecting to be called offside & not trying 100% to score. Linos are told not to flag.

You could argue he should have gone for it 100% & scored first but imo he knew what was coming & was wondering where the flag was.

In the Prem, players are conditioned not to shoot in those circumstances & get yellow cards for it.

But that is completely irrelevant anyway, as I was referring to the other instance, not this one.

Imo, he did nothing wrong in the onside incident, was just unlucky how the ball fell & we have seen Aguero do the same on numerous occasions, including the blocked 2nd shot.

The problem for Sterling is he has a tendency to make a meal of things when he should score and that is the monkey on his back. I dont think that will ever be coached out of him

Probably not, but he has improved a lot & if his goal tally keeps up, will be one of the regular top scorers in the league.
His improvement for me is obvious in terms of positional sense and movement. His finishing remains hit and miss with the misses appearing to be very simple opportunities. Despite his young years he is long in the tooth for a pro footballer hence me saying I dont think he will overcome that side of his game.

His finishing has improved a lot.

He will never be Gary Lineker but he has scored a lot of decent finishes. He will miss some 'easy' ones as well, but if he continues scoring at last season's level then he will have to be considered a goalscorer, irrespective of how he does it.

He has had some decent finishes I agree, but when 1 on 1 (or with time to think), something seems to go terribly wrong. He has that monkey on his back which will take some time to shift IMO.

Regardless of the booing he's shit etc I bet any premier side would take him in a heartbeat and that includes back to the dippers and most of Europe

I'm not sure he will ever shift it. If he was to score for England, before being hounded out of the team, I recon he'd start scoring regularly, but I recon he will still miss stuff, for boh City & England.

What he does have, which is priceless, is the ability to get into dangerous positions & some big goalscorers have based careers on that, without being especially clinical.

For his own sanity maybe southgate should give the rag, dipper and tabloids what they want. Drop him, play Rashford and see how it pans out in the semi-final.

If he wont do that then southgate should man up and talk about the importance of sterling for the team on camera in the press box and how the hate campaign against him isnt justified

Agreed

He already did it for you:
Southgate clarified his position prior to the Colombia game, outlining the reasons why Sterling is not only expected to retain his place in England's starting line-up but is actually regarded by those who matter as central to the team's success. "I have great belief in him," he explained. "He has been a really important part of the team.

"In the last five or six games, with the change of system, he has been key. His movement, his ability to run at teams from deep, his interchanging of position with the other forward players is very important. At times, I have wondered why there has been such a focus on his position in the team and not others but that's the way it has been."

people have been saying he needs to do better in front of goal and to improve his finishing since the dawn of time... He is pitiful in front of goal (as we have seen in the World Cup) unless of course he's in a majestic City team feeding him tap in after tap in. Quite rightly he gets a lot of shit for it from non City fans.

The love in for him on here is excessive. As is the witch hunt against @tommcfc just because he's not scared to give his opinion even though he knows others will not like it.

The rest of his game is very good. He's a decent player. I'm sure he's a very nice lad. The press witch hunt is totally uncalled for.

One of the mods stated not long after he came that he thinks Sterling will turn out to be our all time top scorer which imo is absolute horse shit and typical of the blue tinted views that you see every day on here.

I like it when he plays well. I like it when he scores. But I think to describe him as being shit at finishing is not an exaggeration.

It's an incredibly crass exaggeration: his conversion rate last season in the league was 28.1%; Harry Kane's was 22.3%.

That conversion rate is also better than Jesus', Aguero's and Sane's. GJ & SKA were much closer to Raz and Sane somewhere in between.

Mo Salah's was 29.4%; of the top scorers Vardy had the best conversion rate at a very impressive 33.3%.

Messi actually has a worse conversion rate in the Spanish league than all of the above.

Conversion rate is of course just one part of the story (maybe someone has some XG or whatever they are stats) but to describe someone who scored as many goals as Raz did with a conversion rate that few to strikers can match as "shit at finishing" is a gross exaggeration.

i don't care what the stats say. He's shit at finishing. Anyone who says different is a bona fide happy clapper who it is pointless reasoning with.

There isn't a player out there who has a longer blooper reel than Sterling. That says it all. End of chat.

He was vastly improved last season and brings his own special kind of benefits to the team and merits a place in the team also. He works hard and credit to him. I hope he improves again next season and gets more than 23 for us. He's a big part of what City are building. However, his finishing is abysmal and no one will persuade me otherwise. When he goes through one on one I expect him to miss whilst hoping for the opposite obviously.

No, you are clearly the one who cannot be reasoned with: I can back my argument up with something objective. You are though not alone in confusing the fact that Raz produces some awful finishes with him being in general a poor finisher.
