Strange how Sterling seems to have spells of looking world class then seems to tail off and have a run where he is clearly still running his bollocks off for the team but nothing seems to come off for him and his confidence seems to gradually wane. Only for something out of the blue to happen like his goal the other night which really was a lovely bit of skill, he then has a spell where he looks set to share the kind of lofty perch reserved for the likes of Messi before tapering off again.

There was a moment in the 2nd half where he turned Robertson on the half way line, galloped through the middle towards the goal, and had his shot deflected wide.


That turn and lightning run through the middle is a truly rare trait. That's what so few can do. If you remember during the World Cup Sterling got double marked most games instead of Kane, it was because of that.
