Excellent point. Hadn’t realised they had games arranged for the 5th and 8th, with the season starting on the 12th. Would like to think he and Walker could be excused but probably not.

He and Kev were our stand out players last night. Unfortunate miss but he is not the reason we are out.

Given the state of thw game, he's pretty much entirely why we were out and not at 2-2.

Is it his fault we were 2-1 down? No. But it's entirely his fault we didn't make it 2-2. Just like the 3-2, he let us down.

You can’t rely on him to convert simple chances. It’s always been said in the big moments in a European cup final or whatever (obviously we have a manager who can’t get us that far) would you back him to finish for you? The answer is a pretty clear no.

An interesting comparison is how de Bruyne struck his goal first time with no need for a touch. In the first half, de Bruyne set Sterling up with a chance that had to be struck first time; he took a touch which made the chance harder and it was blocked. Sterling almost always needs to take a touch, which can often be poor in itself, and that’s one of the reasons he cannot be considered an instinctive striker.
