I'm just thankful it was Gungogan who made the run to the back post instead!

And Gundogan is truly underrated..

In 18-19 with ferna out.. he played DM for us to win us that PL.

In 20-21 with no striker and KDB injured and us struggling for goals.. it was Gungogan who went on a tear during that 15 game winning streak to win us the PL.

In 21-22 Gundo was injured with a bad back but still saved us against Villa to win us the PL.

Gundogan salary 140k a week

Has Sterling made that kind of contribution? Yet he was on 300k a week.

And Sterling wanted more money to extend while he was already getting paid double of what Gundogan gets.

I'll let you decide who's contribution is significantly less but in my humble opinion no wonder City sold Sterling and it would not surprise me if Gundogan gets an extension and maybe a statue!
I think Gundo should get a pay increase.

Where did I say Sterling is a failure? I tried to explain why some fans don't fancy him...if you ask me a question that makes some sort of sense I'll be more than happy to give you an answer...you want to compare Sterling to Grealish in what way? Grealish can play as an 8 and drive an offense...he's elite from a technical standpoint as are KDB, Bernardo, Foden, Mahrez, and Cancelo...Sterling relies more on pace and playing predominantly on the receiving end of things...I believe he's a good pro, but not a super star...far too many holes in his game for me...
Not specifically you referring to Sterling as a failure, plenty of others on here have said he's been poor the last two seasons, so failure was probably the wrong word. I would counter that by saying he's been average when compared to his best. I just think you and others are holding him to different standards.

Let me ask you this , if its OK to judge Sterling on goals and assists as many on here do, what would be the level of goals and assists he would have to score for you to have wanted him to stay at City.

This is the problem when someone lives and dies by an XL spreadsheet and doesn't look up to sample reality
Your problem is you judge a player on one aspect of his game and are unable to see what he brings to the team as a whole.

Can I ask you the same question , what would he have had to score the past season or two and assist for you to have changed your mind on keeping Sterling? Honest question.

That is pretty well said. Worth noticing though, that it is the Grealish fanboys and/or Strerling haters that bring Jack into the conversation, as some stick to beat Sterling with when they run out of shit to pile on him.

Which then descends into said whataboutery as he has been totally filicking invisible for a whole season. It's quite a handy thing, argue Sterling is leaving because he has been replaced with a better player in Jack, but dare you compare the two, then it's hey they are completely different players (which they obviously are).

At the end of the day, Sterling has been fantastic for us overall. And he's made the club a marginal profit on top of that. Grealish has a long long way to go to even begin to match that contribution, however you want to measure it. Wish he does, we'd all be delighted, but that doesn't have to come with belittling Sterling's achievements here.
At no point in this thread have I rubbished Grealish, I just asked the question as to what others expect of him, I think they are just being held to account differently.

Yeah. I saw Gundo rummaging around the reduced section in Tesco the other day, poor bastard.
At least he manages to balance his budget. On the other hand, Sterling seems unable to make ends meet. He had to get a salary increase from the new big boys on the block.

Honestly mate - all this stuff about Grealish is just whataboutery IMO

This is the Sterling thread - we can discuss Grealish's performance on the Grealish thread

It is great that you are so positive about Sterling's contribution etc. You express that opinion very clearly

But - other people have a right to hold the opinion that they are glad/not disappointed that Sterling is leaving and they should be allowed to express that clearly as well
That's a fair point, I think we may regret selling both Jesus and Sterling that's all. But I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

I’m sorry to see him go and wished he’d have signed the extension.
Hate seeing any good player leave whilst they still have a lot to offer to the team and prefer them stay until there best days are just coming to a end.
Happy he has done the decent thing and got us a very good fee for a player in his last year of a contract instead of running it down and walking away.
As a player he definitely splits opinion, even within my self, Lost count the amount of times my m8 moans when he starts but is screaming for him at half time when he doesn’t.
His game changed considerably from the player we bought to the player who left.
He was a pacy winger who terrorised defender at Liverpool , he became a more rounded player at city with a lot more attributes then he came with.
His stats are great for City but you’re always going to have the feeling your nan could do well with so many great players around you. No one could argue that he didn’t mis some right sitters though and he often looked clumsy with the ball at his feet taking on defenders, and he lost out to a simple stick your foot in tackles too many times for City and England .
When he was playing by instinct he did the simple things well but wasn’t a player who did well with time to think.
Wished he’d gone abroad or to Newcastle rather then to a closer rival. It dose weaken our squad and may be disruptive with so many changes but we have the right man in Pep to deal with it
Thanks for the memories and good look with the England National team

You didn't, sorry if you felt that was aimed at you. I thought it was a pretty valid question myself, given where the discussion was.
