I reckon City also have claim to the longest and shortest names in the same team.

Possibly Jo and Wright-Phillips

If you mean the longest & shortest names in the EPL, then i thought that the longest was Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink at Hull City?

That's a great one and I can't think of another instance. Usually a big outgoing transfer would not come back for several years by which time their fee would be eclipsed. It's possible it's happened at a lower level or if a player's been sold but come back on loan.

I'd be very interested in this. Great one!

I sort of stumbled on this one and can only imagine instances when a player is sold by and loaned back to a club being close to it.

But i dont think that counts in the same way.

Does it count if they both happen to be the same person?

I'm thinking our current manager during his second spell at the rags....

You're on to something here. When Robson and Hughes were both in the United side during 1988-89 they held the record incoming and outgoing transfers.

Bryan Robson was still utd's record transfer in at the time (£1.5m) Mark Hughes returned.

Hughes was still their record outgoing at £1.8m when he returned to United.

It's probably more common than we think. It's interesting though, especially as the only other one any of us have come up with involves Mark Hughes.

There's gotta be one involving Ian Rush at the dippers I reckon.

Amanda, the only fact I have about that day is pretty rubbish. I can't give any team scores as it's the middle of summer. Perhaps Gary can help me out

Lee Bradbury was born in Cowes on 3rd July 1975. Len Jobling (a City player from 1912) died in Sunderland on 3rd July 1967 (closest I can get to 1968).

David Shawcross (50s/60s player) was born on 3rd July 1941.

Hope this helps.

Thank you both!!!! Wish I could climb into your heads for a bit.
Thanks again.

Gleaned from info recently read -

In 1904, trialist Harry Kay scored four goals in a reserve game, only to be arrested as a result of the subsequent publicity. It transpired that he was an army deserter
