That's certainly the narrative from the perma-deluded Home Counties rags who post on the Pistonheads Forum united thread, I can highly recommend it for wumming as an alternative to redcafe.

You look at that club and it’s like a bad 90s tribute act, infested with entitled cynicism and the reflected glory of someone else’s achievements from long ago.

And it’s that deep-rooted entitlement that’s paralysing them at the moment, stopping them from actually doing anything meaningful to change or improve their situation.

The moment they genuinely acknowledge they’re just another football club amongst many with no god-given right to anything, they might actually start to dismantle the crippling ineptitude and dewy-eyed nostalgia which is holding them back, and build a structure genuinely fit for the future.

As it stands, they seem to be riddled with a blind belief that - because they’re Manchester United, and they’re special - some kind of mercurial, unquantifiable, fantastical alchemy which lives inside those who genuinely understand the club will see them win through.

It’s a fucking fairy story - pure fantasy - but it’s so powerfully intoxicating for their fans, as long as they and their paid lackeys in the mainstream media continue peddling the myth, no-one’s going to force them into taking action.

Fuck ‘em - long may it last.

absolutely correct. Along with a sickening sentimentality and sanctimonious narrative about 'always doing things the right way'......in common with Liverpool and Arsenal. No self depreciating humour is tolerated.

I posted on the united thread about how Woody jokily went about picking Rangnick from the list of top 10 coaches on Clubelo.com (he was 10th)

I hadn't at that time clicked the link to see the top 500 coaches http://clubelo.com/Coaches

http://clubelo.com/TheCase outlines how the ELO is worked out (Chess uses also uses it for rankings IIRC) - it doesn't matter on results, just the quality of opponents played.

So imagine my surprise as I scrolled the list:

Number 29.... lol...Remember this ranking is based on 'Quality of opposition' - Seems the PL really was a 1 or 2 horse race for much 'in it's lifetime'...

And also remember, this 29 position cannot be about bias against 'old' results (as per clubelo's explanation), as Hans Pesser is number 2... behind the Genius.

Two different scenarios in play.
As a business it is expertly run giving a profit to the owners.
As an entertainment company it is poorly run not giving value for money.
Whilst profit to owners continues, value for money will never be a consideration.
