Not a fan of net spend for all the usual reasons but the following table of our activity since the 100 points season (18/19, 19/20. 20/21 and a couple of weeks of 21/22) is food for thought for the hard of thinking net spend wankers who continually bang on about how much we spend:

The figures are from transfer mrkt and the table doesn't include the £11mil for Sancho but Harrison, Angelino and Nmecha deals are there. And no doubt we will end up with another £100mil+ net before the end of the season. But the other clubs are still likely to see increases as well.

The main point though is that the re-build has been achieved with a very high number of players (12) who had PL minutes in the 17/18 100 point season and have since exited including the "irreplaceable" top, top players.

Player/PL apps
Otamendi - 34
Lero Sane - 32
David Silva - 29
Sergio Aguero - 25

Danilo -23
Fabian Delph - 22
Vinny Kompany - 17
YaYa Toure - 10

Eli Mangala -9
Brahim Diaz - 5
Claudio Bravo-3
Lukas Nmecha -2

There was a chance also that Dinho would have gone by now as well albeit you imagine he will only be used sparingly in 21/22

Trust in Pep, trust in Txiki.....

Villa weren’t even in the PL in the 18/19 season which makes their spending even more impressive!

Can't be right.

The dippers win that one every year.

They continually bang on about it over and over again and from what I see are the worst for going on and on about us and what we've spent. Over on RAWK today they are talking about Pep and spending on fullbacks lol

This is one of the issues with using net spend as a comparative metric. It entirely depends on where you started from.

If you trade in a Ford Focus for a Rolls-Royce, your net spend will be far higher than if you trade in a 12 month old Rolls. When the old guard complained about our spending, it was hypocritical as they'd been spending for years. If you replace a £50m player with another £50m player then your net spend is low but you've still got a £50m player.

On the other hand if you've gone out and bought a £50m player from scratch, as we did in the early years of the takeover, then your net spend is going to be high but you've still got a £50m player. That's where Villa have come from recently.

And it doesn't take wages into account so in the last few years a lot of Liverpool's spend was on their wage bill, rather than in the transfer market. Ironically, one person who's got this formula right is our good friend Senõr Tebas. His financial rules in La Liga look at total player spend, imposing a club-specific maximum limit on spending on transfers and wages for the season. Whereas UEFA FFP is backward looking, meaning clubs can get into trouble well before the warning signs are actually visible.

5 year aggregate amortisation+wages from 14/15 to 18/19:

£1.903 billion - United
£1.778 billion - City
£1.771 billion - Chelsea
£1.529 billion - Liverpool
£1.407 billion - Arsenal

Then agent fees, profit from sales etc ..Chelsea then Liverpool biggest winners for sales and United bottom of the pile for this time period.

6 year figures 14/15 to 19/20:

£2.311 - United
£2.227 - City
£2.121 - Chelsea
£1.961 - Liverpool
£1.745 - Arsenal

this will still create a divide which big clubs want surely

Best run club in the world but worked hard to get here

The CFG is dominant, its almost scary

And the funny part is apart from Sane, we've never sold someone we didn't want to

We are the only team/group that continually invest and it pays dividends...plus the investment in frastructure is paying itself off

We've sold Harrison £11mil (£+4mil add ons) and Nmecha £11mil and smartly have puy 15% sell on clauses for both incase they reach their potential, they cost us £3mil to bring in

Plus we're looking to get £15mil+ for Herrera and Ilic, again with sell-on clauses (sell-on clauses are my new favourite thing, great idea adding them)

We are selling players that aren't going to start for us for good money and adding clauses that benefit us long term. We may have missed out on Sancho but we'd have made almost £20mil by the end of that deal, brilliant for an 17 year old with 1 year left on his deal

We don't have a Hazard, Coutinho level sale but we have such a good income source

Also the continued investment into players like Kayky, Metinho, Sarimento, Rosa etc. Enable us to maintain and develop talent either for the first team or sell them for a profit
