It's only a small comfort, but the key thing for us is that if you continue to get to the latter stages of this competition you will have good results, painful results, and, eventually, results that win the whole thing. It's a sport where the best team doesn't always win, and that tiny lapses of concentration can be punished. Pep knows that better than anyone given his time at Barcelona, who have been on their own humiliating or painful semis over the years. But think about Bayern in 99 and under Pep. Like you say, losing a playoff final is much worse in the grand scheme of things.Gillingham fans will know the feeling, arguably a more sickening life-changing result, with no redemption. The QPR fans were actually celebrating staying up in 2012, so no tears at the loss. For us to drop a point in the run-in will hurt more than the loss in Madrid imo, not winning a trophy is definitely NOT typical City...
You make the mistake of looking at the competition as whole.
Any manager worth his salt will tell his players to take it one game at time.
motivation to win the game in play when the pressure is on. Without it, more often than not you lose. It’s that simple.
Madrid were more motivated. Ancelotti had them believing they’d win. first goal cemented that belief. They took that motivation and won.
Countless lower league clubs do it every year! The so called giant killings! The motivation to win and cause an upset gets them through.
Why do you think that a half time team talk from the players and manager can have a huge effect in so many games?
Villarreal 1st half against Liverpool the night before clearly more motivated to win.
Lyon, Monaco.
Pep shouldn’t need to put a shirt on, he should of already got in their heads and made them believe that they could win at all costs.
He cleaned up domestically at Bayern, yet couldn’t get them over the line in this competition. It can’t be the players fault there as well because Hansi flick came in and won it!
He had the motivation with barca, it’s his club, and it transpired into his players and the rest is history
the Wembley 99 side were that motivated that they refused to bottle it even after it looked gone!
That’s how you win one off pressure games.
We were gillingham last night
Imho, City just needs to win once and the surge of confidence will mean multiple CL victories soon after..Just it’s more likely than not that we’ll fuck up in Europe when the chips are down.
I have zero faith in this team or manager to succeed in Europe.
I’m not saying sack Pep etc - I hope he extends - but I’ve resigned myself to accepting that we’ll always fail (mostly in comedic fashion) in this competition.
El Mundo Deportivo is a Catalan pro Barça publicationI was surprised a Spanish paper printed how much time was played in the second half of extra time.

I don't think so.Just out of interest ---- did VAR review the incident?
I’d prefer Guadiola to stop with the little Man City with no experience angle and make his players believe we can win this and do everything to motivate his team better.Good grief.
Guardiola trusts his players to do the right thing on the pitch. I can't see him sitting down and having a juice an biscuit and telling the players 'take it easy if we lose, we lose, no biggie'. What kind of talk do you think he had with the players?
You're insinuating as City are 'not his club' he lacks the means to motivate the players.
I just don't know what you're intimating. Would you rather Guardiola leave and some other manager come in, fall down the Prem table to be top four instead of top two, just to pursue the Chumps League, when that's not even a guarantee.
It's a really short sighted and dumb position to take.
