Why do Real Madrid have a seperate set of rules with regards to the transfer window??

i was astonished again yesterday evening to see Lassana Diarra doing keepy uppy in a Madrid kit in front of the media, the window doesn't open until the 1st jan YET they have managed to sign 2 players.

regardless of whether the player was unlikely to play for Portsmouth again, or Huntelaar for Ajax, there must have been discussions between clubs and agents in order to complete this signing.

why is this allowed to happen?

i just can't come up with any logical answer as surely this has paved the way for any club to sign a player outside of the window as long as they then no longer play for their old club?

I too was thinking this.

Liking Barcelona as much as I do.....we should buy Madrid and close them down. Cheap bastards.

There is no problem with what they have done, we could do the same. Diarra isnt eligible to play for them until the window opens in january

I thought deals could not be agreed until the window opens and that agents could not be in-contact with other clubs about players?

It's all above board as long as it's an official approach.
Just makes it easy to get the deal done on the first day of the transfer window.
Letsw face it Madrid aren't going to let him play for Pompey and get injured are they?

i understand the obvious answer moomba but surely it isn't that simple - you are supposed to be unable to speak to a player as it is then tantamount to tapping up.

i can't believe more has not been made of this in the media.

but as i stated above Eric, why doesn't everyone do it then? - in which case what is the point of the window?

Because not everyone is as desperate to sell as Pompey.
There is nothing wrong with making an 'official' approach outside the window to say
'would you consider selling us Kaka in the summer window?'
The 'official' response in most cases would be 'go away'

If there was anything wrong with UEFA would have noticed by now!

I'm going to guess that maybe the two clubs have a legal agreement to buy the player on the 1st January. Portsmouth may still have his registration, but have agreed not to play him. Then on the 1st January I presume the paperwork will be sent off and the deal will be done 'officially'.
