Danny Tiatto was given a circular red card back in the promotion season, when he kicked the bottles. I remember it clearly, because it was the first time I had seen it. Maybe it's a lower division thing? Not seen it in the Prem.

i think it's up to each individual referee. i've read somewhere that it's so they don't pull out the wrong card.

Its down to the Refs choice.. Some use them as it helps them get the right card. Once a ref pulls a card out and brandishes it then that card is the punishment, there has been instances in the past when a red was mistakenly issued
