That’s crept in on the game this season, quite a lot I’ve noticed. I understand fully about being mindful of concussion but the amount of players that go down claiming head trauma when attacking teams are putting pressure on goal is amazing. If I wasn’t cynical I would be thinking it’s a snide way of relieving pessure;)
I actually think this is a much bigger problem than people are realising.
Head injuries are very serious, it’s taken the game way too long to realise that. We absolutely can not have people faking them. Anything that lessens the urgency and precautions needed for head injuries and “normalises” them needs to be stamped out with absolute authority immediately. It’s this stuff that leads to people thinking “oh they’ll probably be fine, we see these three times every game”. It is endangering players. Look at the Iranian keeper in the World Cup who (stupidly) played on.
The only way I can think of stopping it is to mandate 5 minutes on the sideline for anybody who needs a concussion check. It sucks for the team it happens to but it would get rid of this nonsense very quickly.
