Referees/Officials 2017/18 performances

That tackle would never have happened had Mason signalled intent early doors as the ref in the rags game did on Friday. 20 seconds your in the book son i will not put up with that.
Mason hates City and by his inaction at the continuing bad challenges effectively encouraged it

It was a poor performance by the ref, but the disallowed goal is purely down to the linesman. If Sane was offside (he wasnt) then eveb with my blue tinted glasses he was interfering with play. The issue was he wasn't offside and that is the linesman not the ref.

No excuse for the lack of protection, and this is occurring most weeks now. That is definitely the ref.

There lies the issue, the blind suggest 'evens up over the season' but the odd one that goes our way isn't a game changer.

I think the marginal offsides etc probably do even themselves out over the course of the season. The far bigger concern is the amount of reckless, dangerous challenges on our players that aren’t being punished correctly. I can think of at least six this season and not a single red card has been issued.

The ridiculous thing is that it’s not difficult for the ref to issue a red, worst he will get is people saying “it’s a harsh red” on some occasions but surely they need to start favouring us rather than the opposition, it’s just not right.

Hopefully the amount of press attention the challenge on Sane is getting will see us get greater protection for the rest of the season. I’m not holding my breath though.

Good post. Sums it up really.

Just looked on a few Cardiff forums and they are also disgusted at the challenge yesterday. Shame officials and pundits can’t see it

Really? The pundits have been pretty consistent that it was a sending off offence.
Warnock said he'd not have complained if the card had been red (the question was phrased to avoid making him comment directly on the tackle).

Refs applying that approach would also end up with criticism though. We've repeatedly seen "ref what you see, don't guess" (Clattenburg and Sterling's 'handball'), so it must work the same the other way round.

In this case, I think his view was partially blocked, but the linesman and/or 4th official are capable of telling him how bad they saw it.

It would even be productive for his report to mention that he didn't see it fully, then at least it will turn to SFP and 3 matches. The one on Diaz could have been red as well, although not as dangerous

The ref's report will state the reason for the booking for the foul on Leroy, if this doesn't mention the high contact on his leg then why can't the FA charge the thug for endangering an opponent's safety with excessive force? If fairness to Mason he can't be expected to keep-up with play, when Leroy is running at full pace, so surely this would be anything against him. I think the same could be applied for all the challenges above. Pep is spot-on, there must be a change to protect the players the yellow card for a bad tackle is the same punishment for a minor infringement. Cardiff should have at least 5 yellow and one red but, because of the perception that poor old Cardiff were playing one of the best teams in Europe then they should be allowed extra leeway.

The referees assistant could see that Leroy was standing in front of the keeper from side on but couldn’t see a a very obvious high and dangerous foul ! Couldn’t or didn’t want to?

Exactly I might be wrong but Im sure we have had issues with this linesman before, the 4 yards offside goal v Spurs at WHL

Didn't happen with the challenge on kev at palace and people thought that was horrendous, I'm doubtful there's anything we can do to stop it
