I know the answer is to rise above it, and play so that the officials can't make the difference, but I am getting thoroughly fed up of the treatment we are getting from officials this season. I really don't want to be talking about them at all before of after a game, but this one was a perfect example of our season - a shite decision against us which changes the scoreline, and completely inept and inconsistent refereeing on fouls.
Arsenal must be absolutely pissing themselves this morning. Not only have they got through to a cup final with a perfectly legal goal against them chalked off, they've also managed to nobble arguably the two most influential players in the team of a direct rival for a top 4 spot, without reprimand from the officials. Indeed, you could say after it became clear Pawson wasn;t booking anyone in the first few minutes, it was almost with the blessing of the officials.
For the 'goal', and I know this has been said over and over, but how on earth can the linesman say it went out for sure from his position? Clearly the relays show it did not fully go out, we all know the rule about the ball crossing the line completely, so what did he imagine he actually saw to give it as out? He guessed, got it wrong , changed the scoreline of the game, and should be accountable for that. Not just poor, completely inexcusable.
The fouls against us were something I didn't actually expect from Arsenal, maybe seeing Gabriel and Xhaka in their team I should have known better, usually they are the kind of team to put in a few snidey challenges but not be over physical. Probably a bit like us. But they had a game plan yesterday and it involved roughing us up, and we retaliated with a few of our own, and for that Pawson has to take full blame for not controlling the game. Howard Webb spouting on about keeping it calm for the first 20 minutes and no cards, just shows the idiotic thinking of the man and the refereeing scheme. Pawson could have stopped that, and prevented further injured to either side, by showing a yellow for the first challenge that warranted one. Instead he was a coward, and lost control of the game. As a result of his inept performance Aguero, maybe you could also say Silva, hobbled off.
Is there anything to be done about this? Whether it be Kyle Walker getting away with blatant shoves, Zlatan's elbows being acceptable or goals chalked off incorrectly, I know we've underperformed this season and we can say it is a work in progress, but we are going to continually it seems come up against this kind of crap from the officials unless we ruffle a few feathers at the FA. It's every bloody game now, and its not even hidden, I'll always support City to the end but this kind of blatant cheating makes it hard to enjoy the journey.
Very pissed off this morning. A loss I can take, but yet another result influenced directly by the officials is getting to be too much.
