Remembering Marc-Vivien Foé

We (rightly) retired the no 23 shirt in memory of MVF.

I wonder how people would feel if we had a new super signing that wanted the no 23 shirt? I think I would object, wonder what others think?

The new signing would surely understand the meaning of 'retired shirt number' though I wouldn't want a whole host of numbers retired either going forward.

Also, I can't believe it was 18 years ago, I was 30yo, blimey.

A pre yaya, yaya and at the time probably one of our best players if not the best.

RIP

I remember that night well. I'd been in town waiting outside Flannels as there was an event on and Pele was in town. Managed to get Pele's autograph, turned round to see Ricky Hatton just standing back watching like everyone else (although he obviously then went in after).

It was a great evening, the weather was amazing. Got home and flicked on the football to see the awful news that Foe had collapsed on the pitch playing for Cameroon.

I remember going down to Maine Road a few days later to sign a book of condolences. Grown men were in tears and all the flowers and shirts from fans from all over the country. Some great messages from united, Liverpool fans etc. A real sense of the football community coming together.

RIP Marc. He made a big impact in the short time he was with City and was by all accounts accounts a great guy. A tragic loss and a fitting tribute that he was the last City player to score at Maine Road.
