Remembering the Inflatable Banana craze / Stoke Boxing Day fancy dress party

I remember the Birmingham away match( late 80s) with KC being ' escorted' away by police I think.i was shocked at the time as I thought it was down to trouble, didn't realise it was to do wifh him taking photos.
Away days were crazy in those days ,anything could happen, and often did....
Especially with the West Midlands police....

Had a great time at the fancy dress boxing day game. Outrageously un-PC now but i went as a flasher with a long rain coat left open with a cut out of the “flash” wording from a box of Flash washing powder across my undies. a pair of docks , my hair slicked down with dads Brylcream and a tube of Smarties showing from my top raincoat pocket.
ffs can you imagine doing that now!!

Now, correct me if I'm wrong.

Wasn't there a book published around the time called something like "City - the untold story of a team that went bananas"??

Does anyone have a copy of said book??

Or have I dreamt this
Yep I can remember and did have it - not sure if I still do, will have a nosey later on

Loved this book so much when it came out. Must have read it 20 times!
Best bit is Peter Swales telling how he and his missus ate homemade sandwiches in the valley parade car park before the game!

Imagine walking to the Etihad and seeing Khaldoon and Sheikh Monsur eating banana and crisp butties in the back of a ford Granada!!

If I see him I’ll ask him if he remembers

I had this compilation album, to raise money for the campaign against ID cards for football fans.
Picture was taken at Brentford in the 88 /89 FA Cup game v City (by Kevin Cummins)

I was there for this
Did all corner flag pubs
Rumors that Chelsea were waiting outside for us which of course they werent

Didn't we play Stoke twice on boxing days 87-88, 88-89, and took about 12,000 to both games?
First one we won. Paul Stewart scored a couple and I reckon we took around 10,000 to that game
The season after, where ultimately we were promoted, we lost. Gleghorn scored the opening goal, but I'm certain we took more for that game, maybe 15,000, as Stoke gave us a side and an end of the stadium
