I know Petrov's comeback has been mentioned elsewhere but I'm in Newcastle tonight, so gonna mosey along and see how he looks. Will post later if anybody interested. Also gonna count Benjani smiles. Sweepstake anyone?

get McGivern on infronbt of bridge in 1st team! good wee ulster man! Came on for northern ireland mid week there and played excellent! changed the game infact! gonna be a goodn! Let me no how he goes and martin! ;)

Let us know how David Ball gets on. Didn't he score loads for the U18s last season? I guess he's been overshadowed by the hype surrounding Sturridge.

Oh yeah and let us know how Petrov, Weiss, Mcgivern, Mee......actually as soon as I get excited about one player another pops into my head. There's loads of potential 1st teamers in the squad.

Enjoy the game.

Newcastle Res 1 Manchester City Res 1

Newcastle took the lead in the 16th minute through a shot from Andy Carroll but Benjani levelled for City with a header on 32 minutes.

Danny Guthrie was forced to leave the pitch five minutes before the break after taking a kick on the ankle, to be replaced by Haris Vuckic.

Team: Krul, Tavernier, Lough, Smith, Morris, Edgar, Doninger, Guthrie (Vuckic 40), Ranger, Carroll, Xisco
Subs: Godsmark, Danquah, Ferguson, James Taylor.

City were the last side to beat Newcastle's reserve side, winning 3-0 at Hyde back in January. Since then the lads have won five and drawn the other two of their seven league and cup fixtures.

The visitors sit in fourth spot - a point and a place behind Newcastle - and are expected to include Martin Petrov as he continues his comeback from injury.

Hamman, also came off at half time and Benjani was replaced by the Youth team keeper, who played centre forward

i'm no expert and everyone sees the game differently but here's what I saw...

Game started slowly, not much in it before they scored opening goal. We lost ball cheaply in midfield, they had 2 on 1 on our defence and Carroll scored a peach. This woke us up and Petrov began to get invovled - ran the right back ragged for the rest of the half. We've all seen it, he comes short, lays it off, turns and sprints for the ball played behind the back four - I'd forgot how exciting he is - and its a totally different dimension to what Robinho gives us.

One such move saw him turn the defender inside out and stand a cross up for Benjani to nod in from 6 yards. Weiss was also a threat on the other side, in one move going past 3 defenders. We were well on top - but Carroll was a threat on the break.

In another move Petrov charged forward from the half way line, getting into the box, again turning the hapless defence inside out before screwing his shot wide. This run took it out of him though and he played up front for about 5 minutes recovering. Half-time 1-1, we were better side.

Petrov and Hamann (his usual quiet effective game) didn't come out for the second half and you kind of knew that would change things. They were the better side and Caroll notched again, though did look offside (after Weiss lost bal cheaply). Carrol could have notched a 'trick but for a couple of smart saves by Martin.

Our only threat was Weiss who constantly beat his man, but was getting doubled up all the time. He went down twice in the box, I thought either one could have been a pen. The ref booked him for diving and he was lucky not to get sent off coz he grabbed hold of the ref's shirt when he saw he hadn't got the pen. The lad obviously fancies himself and has all the tricks, looks a talent but no end product tonight.

As for the others, no-one really stood out. McGivern didn't play, Ball's main contribution was to nearly get knocked out blocking a keepers kick straight in the kisser. No-one had a nightmare, just didn't do anything to get you off your seat. The 2 that stood out were Weiss and Petrov - who based on this would probably give you 15-20 mins on Thurs if he comes through ok.

Decent enough crowd, small pocket of City fans singing the odd song. Didi, Didi give us a wave - no response. Followed by Martin, Martin give us a wave - no response. Followed by Someone, Someone give us a wave - as usual got a good laugh and a couple of the lads did wave back.

Benjani smile count - only saw 1 when he scored - did little else. Alan Smith played for them - was shite.
