After all the scaremongering and hosepipe bans, plus the warmest year on record.

United Utilities latest data.
  • Regional Total = 92.0%
  • Last year = 80.9%
The water level at Thirlmere is 0.04 meters below the top level (1.5 inches).

Bloody wonderful country we live in.

What hosepipe ban? And warmest doesn't mean driest e.g. it's been well above seasonal averages this week but without those nice blue, winter skies

Not seen the flower beds in the back garden since November. Going to have to sell the house and invest in a barge for when they build housing at the back of us.

Didn't have a hosepipe ban round our way this year, but do have plenty of blocked drains. United utilities and the local council like to play hot potato over who needs to do something about it.

Last time they were out, united utilities told us to expect it to get worse as all the new housing they throw up connect their shiny new pipes to the existing system, with Victorian era pipework, and chaos ensues. Flooding, blockages, sinkholes, and very little requirement for housing developers to mitigate it, is what we were told.

Most of our water comes from the lakes that did have a decent amount of rain compared to other areas. down south they only had 37% of there usual summer rain and did get close to a hosepipe ban. not sure if some areas had one. where my folks are was just a close call I think.

Water companies need to do a hell of a lot more to collect and distribute water tho.

Good old UU. One of my jobs with them in the early 80s was collecting and reporting on the reservoir levels for the Goyt Valley reservoir and others. Teggsnose, Lamaload, Trentabank in the Macclesfield Forest area; Errwood, Fernilee, Bottoms, Woodhead, Torside, Rhodeswood etc.

its not the reservoirs though - its the leaky pipes that get it from there to you that are the main issue (and the drains that take it away) that have been starved of investment

Tell that to those who live in Yorkshire, the hosepipe ban was only lifted at the end of November. Strange how it pisses it down up north but in the sunnier, drier south they avoided a hosepipe ban.
