Results Day 2025

Congratulations to those who got the results you wanted.
However, for those that didn't, don't worry too much about it. Further education isn't for everyone. Most employers still look for employees with common sense and those willing to graft.
I left school with 6 "O" levels, started work at 17 and did loads of overtime when I was young.
It enable me to buy my first property at 21, become mortgage free at 32 and retire at 50.
No wonder theres so many job vacancies.

How much did your first house cost though?

Congrats to all those who got what they wanted to get and for all those that didnt dont worry there's plenty more to come.

On a side note bit of a proud uncle moment as my niece just got into durham, thats the clever side of the family.
On a similar theme, my eldest daughter, who always struggled with maths, said last night that her biggest and proudest academic achievement wasn't the distinction in her physiotherapy Masters degree, it will always be the B in GCSE maths

She should be proud of that, to me it always feels more of an achievement to overcome something that you struggle with even if it seems minor to everyone else than to breeze through something you find easy in comparison.

Had a headteacher once, in a school I worked at, who had complaints from a parent for not putting his son's name, who had straight A*, in the local paper. The head turned to him and said "i have a student who has gained 8 C's. If you knew her background, what she's had to overcome, how hard she's had to work, you'd realise that her achievement is greater than your son's. If i can't put her name in the paper i'm not putting anyone's in." That's always stuck with me and how we should really measure success.

Congrats to all those who did well, & those that didn’t ( I was once one of those! ) you’ll be fine.
On related topic, If they do a degree in FC25 analysis & rinsing Netflix, then I think my 16 year old will be OK!!

tbh there probably is a degree in that somewhere by now lol

Watching the kids open their A level results has given me PTSD. I had to get ABB for the course I wanted to study. I only wanted that course. I was going to resit rather than go to my second choice. Felt sick in the lead up, peaking on the the morning of the results. Convinced I would get Cs at best. I picked up the letter from college and while walking home, curiosity got the better of me, so I opened the letter. I easily got the grades I wanted. I screamed out loud in the middle of Safeways car park. Wanted to celebrate with my friends but none of them got the grades they needed.

Up to around 25 years after getting the results I have had nightmares where I did not get the grades and where I forgot to revise.

My nephew did not get the grades he needed to study English & Politics at Manchester University. They have though offered him English Literature & American Studies. He has not decided what he is going to do. I also have two staff who are currently not logged on as they are helping their kids with Clearing.

She’ll love it there. Two of my kids went there. Had a great time. One’s a company director now, the other’s a solicitor.
