Retired coppers rant about football fans.

I never accept the "anti high-pay argument" against top footballers. They are the best in the world in their profession. Just like world champion boxers, movie stars, Olympic athletes, etc etc. Premier League players lead an industry which creates billions of pounds globally and creates hundreds of thousands (perhaps millions) of jobs. They are the top of the tree and worth every penny they get. No one complains about how much Bruce Springsteen or Tom Hanks gets paid.
Ahem,...

...oh, alright then, I concede, he has brought several year's worth of quality entertainment our way.

Don't forget when this bellend became a copper his superiors - the one's who formed his opinions about how to be a good copper the senior officers would have been veterans of things like Orgreave and the battle of the Beanfield when the police force was used as a paramilitary force by the govt and as a result they see anyone who doesn't conform to what they think/want are deviants worth little more than a good kicking

I can't imagine the one in the video giving anyone a kicking, more likely a tit wank with his man breasts.

123000+ doctors in the uk. Nevermind consultants/surgeons/specialists/etc.

123000 x 100k per annum = ...???? (Its a big number)

And some clowns want them to earn that per week lol. All about supply and demand at the end of the day

Hiya mate, why sad ?

BTW, I want to be mindful of how I phrase things because it's your Dad S, hopefully you know me enough to know it would never be my intention to be disrespectful or downplay his importance in your life mate.

You see, I would look at that and see it from a very different angle, I'd say, if anything, it was your Dads presence that enhanced the football, not the other way round, football is pretty inconsequential for me there, it could be any sport, or any thing for that matter, your Dad being present and being there for you, for good or bad is what makes it what it is ?

As you know, 'Scientist' is a very broad term that encompasses all sorts, from Maths to Environmental etc etc, there's tons more of them, it doesn't surprise me that 8 million figure worldwide, whereas Football is just one, so I don't think it's too fair a comparison, that's not to say each don't play a significant role, once we go into the finer detail of each one we'd see their relevance and just how important they are.

Not sure where you've got your figures from but that seems way off regarding the top scientist pay, it's a simple Google search from me granted, but in general their annual salary is less than many Premier League Footballers weekly wage, there are Scientists with celebrity status, like Richard Dawkins, showing $10m as his net worth, a quick search shows Stephen Hawking net worth of $20m, Brian Cox £6m, Lionel Messi's shows around $1 Billion, maybe I'm missing something there mate ?

I get the basic economics of supply and demand, I don't blame the footballers on an individual level, if the money's on offer, then they'd be daft not to take it, I just disagree with people who don't see the disparity when it comes to their rtue importance.
Its not about their perceived true importance tho. It’s irrelevant. All that matters is supply and demand.... As has been shown with bog rolls and shipping containers in the last 18 months

In my experience South Yorkshire police are the worst in the country for bullying at football. One fat, old bastard hit me across my calves with his baton for jumping up from my seat after a goal and gave me a load of verbal abuse informing me that if I took my hands out of my pockets for the rest of the game he was nicking me. He and his grinning colleagues that surrounded me thought that was immense fun. This bloke's just an example of the lazy, I'm better than you attitude displayed by many Coppers. He must have been a joy to work alongside the miserable twat.

Went to many away games in the 80's' and 90's. Although I was always very well behaved, I do recall trips to Aston Villa, Coventry, Huddersfield, Barnsley , Stoke, where The Police themselves provoked a great deal of serious disorder. I would say - quite deliberately. The best example happened to be at Brentford for an FA Cup match ( played on a ploughed field of a pitch.) The visitor's end was a vast open bowl and as it was raining hard the City fans congregated in a covered paddock area to the right. During the first-half all kinds of mayhem took place in the opposite paddock -the Police were wading into the Brentford fans ( for no obvious reason ) and many were being taken away by the police. At half time, it had stopped raining and I moved into the empty bowl behind the goal. I became aware that a long line of Policemen had marched into this area ; they were all very young and looked like Nazi Stormtroopers.
A gate behind the goal was opened and these guys marched military style onto the side of the pitch and then waded into the City fans in the right side paddock. All hell was then let loose amongst the City fans and a great many were led away by the police. As this was taking place I looked on in amazement and was shaking my head in disbelief at what I was seeing.
A lone Copper ( old school ) was looking at me and he beckoned me to come over to him. Was I going to be arrested for shaking my head? What's your problem Son? ..he said (I was 36 at the time ) I answered : " I cannot believe what is going on here ..it's the police who are causing all this trouble ! The copper responded : " I quite agree with you, son.!"
Going back into the City on the Tube I was in a carriage with some of the Brentford fans and I enquired of them as to what was actually going-on in the ground. They told me that the Metropolitan Police Riot Control Squad had come down to the Brentford Ground - "to get some practice"! An interesting postscript took place in the House of Commons the following Monday . The Sports Minister was a certain Mr Moynihan who he had been charged by Maggie Thatcher to bring in "membership" controls on football fans. " You're telling me we don't need to have some sort of controls in football grounds !? There were 234 arrests at the Brentford Game last Saturday ! This hooliganism has to be stopped !"

Actually, I generally sympathise with the Police, and there were plenty of football hooligans around in those days and I didn't envy the police for having to administer some sort of control over us yobboes. Still, I would reiterate the fact that the Police were no angels in dealing with ( generally visiting ) fans.

Any oldsters out there who recall this match ? We lost - I think.

Policing the WORST football hooligans? I didn't know their was a league table for this? Who's top? Dippers or Rags? Mind, when yer look at the foul count at Ht last night - 8-1 - it could be us!
The Top 6 sets of fans for arrests in 2019-20 were:
Leeds
Birmingham
Bolton
West Ham
Villa
City

City, Leeds and Birmingham are usually up at the top every year, with United usually up at the top with us (but they were down in 17th in 19-20)
