Rico Lewis | Set to sign a new 5-year contract (pg33)

Whilst he is not a regular starter, Rico is a good squad player and also HG. If he does leave surely we will be looking at bringing in a new RB... hopefully.

Evening all - Forest fan in peace - reading through this thread there seems to be a mixed opinion about Lewis? He certainly fits our profile of transfers and we need a RB as we basically ran Aina into the ground last season (why we had to play a 19yr old CB against you at Wembley). Is he good enough to back up and eventually replace Aina for us? Cheers
As Pep said Rico doesn’t care where he plays , he just wants to play football

Very intelligent player that has cut his teeth at right back but his future is a number 8

Our less intelligent fans have written him off but those that can appreciate footballing ability realise he’s a gem that we should be polishing over the next few seasons

If we sold Palmer, due to reason that by that time we had KDB, Foden, Alvarez competing for his position, then selling Rico also makes a lot of sense.

We have Matheus, Akanji, Khusanov - all capable to play that RB position better than him.
Akanji and Khusanov are better at defending and Matheus offers a lot in attack.

As for the midfield, there we have too many good players, to even consider giving Rico some minutes.
Rodri, Nico, Kovacic, Bernardo, Gundo, Foden, Cherki, Reijnders... 8 elite players competing for the 3 midfield positions..

So 30m is good money for such player.

McAtee also has good potential, but we sold him because there was no place for him as we had better players.
Same applies to Rico..

Rico can play RB in a pinch, but was developed in City’s First Team primarily as an Inverted RB, moving into RDM, with a Back Three behind him.

However, more recently, he has been pushed further up and been of better use. He’s scored a few and been integral in a few others.

With top teams, he will be a utility player, but with lesser teams, he could be an integral player in a fluid system.

He can move, but not pacy. He is strong for his size, but his size is small. He is a workhorse and a battler, with a great engine.

If that sounds like a Forest player to you, I’d assume we could do business in the £40M range (possibly £35M with easy add-ons and a 10-20% sell on).
A lot of that fits, Nuno likes a formation change or three per match. We’ve got the CB’s to play three at the back plus we’re trying to get away from low block /quick transitions and break teams down. Having just got Hutchinson for £35m plus IgorJesus, Anderson and MGW already here. RB is his best route into the first 11

I’d reject. It’s too late and he’s too versatile and 30mil doesn’t make a blind bit of difference
Take a view in 12 months - or, if it starts getting towards 50mil then that’s a different conversation

Rico can play at right back but he's a midfielder. He doesn't have the technical ability of Macatee, he's more of a driving midfielder. He's not fully made his mark yet as he's so young but I really like Rico because of his mentality. I can see him developing into a player like MGW.

I'd be very wary of taking comments on here seriously. A significant number of users are not City fans and are forever slagging off our players, Pep, the owners etc.

Great opportunity to top up the transfer kitty, by selling a players that nowhere near the level required.

There's still time to pull this window around!
Does it need pulling around, been quite good, not perfect and may yet improve a bit but good.

A serious talent. I will be very disappointed if he leaves my club - more so than any departure that I can remember, something that shocks me a little.
Don’t often disagree with you mate but there’s players galore in the last 10 years who have flummoxed me by moving on, this one doesn’t and it’s right for him; we can debate the merits of his skill set and also shortcomings but where does he play if we sign a RB? He doesn’t get near that midfield

I think the fee will be lower than most of us would like with a reasonable buyback. And a high likelihood he is back in a couple of years

I'm not gonna hang him out to dry as others seem happy to.
There's a decent player in him - but if we're offered good money, decent doesn't mean we should keep him I'm afraid.

Biggest thing is whether he wants to be a fullback, if he doesn’t and wants to play in midfield then he needs to move. If he stays he’ll get games but they’ll all be as an inverted right back. If he had a chat with Pep maybe that was his question and what will makes his decision.

20 million should do but would take £20

Hilarious
