Didn't realise he was still around until now. That's a good run to get to 94, hopefully he had quality of life until the end. It's weird thinking back? Grandstand and World of Sport both running simultaneously on Saturdays. ITV 7 had the horse racing live. Grandstand had second half of a rugby league game live with Eddie (thank you Frank) Waring. Football Focus (with Sam Leitch) first up on BBC, then flick over to ITV for comb over Brian and Chinny Hill's version. Fat blokes wrestling in big pants on ITV until about 4.45 and then both sides rush to give footy results. Basically, 4 1/2 hours of feck all when we only had three channels for years?
However, Mr Davies was a consumate professional even when saddled with the likes of Eric Morecambe or Freddie Starr were assigned to help him out live. RIP sir

He found a new audience when he presented fighting talk for a few episodes on 5live and his personality added to that format.

R.I.P Dickie Davies

An icon for my generation as we watched him present "sports" such as Canadian Log Rolling, Stock Car and Banger racing (sometimes towing caravans!!) and the wrestling before the footy scores came in.

Loved World of Sport!!

World of sport was my first memories of seeing the football results on telly.
Mixed in with Big Daddy wrestling and banger racing from Belle Vue.

And i wonder now what all those women at the typewriters actually did!
