It sounds like it would cost more than the HS2, and take forever - I doubt we have the workforce to do them all.
It also seems as though it's all HS2 management fault, and they're going to carry the can. Taking from them to make another Euston management company sounds like movign deckchairs around.
Er - London to Glasgow or Edinburgh, both 400 miles.It really is apples and oranges to compare UK high speed with Spain (or France for that matter). Those countries are vast and empty. Building lines is relatively easy as there is space to do so.
The distances are further too, so there's greater saving in time.
Paris-Marseille is 400 miles - that's London to about Dundee. You couldn't build HS2 track that long that if you wanted to in the UK.
Comparing Uk with other countries purely on amount built is as intellectually deceitful as Grant Shapps.

I thought it was about 350 to Edinburgh, but it's immaterial. We can't build an HS track to Edinburgh.
