Riyad Mahrez

Hi guys, Leicester fan here and I come in peace. From a Leicester perspective what I can tell you about Mahrez is that his 95 million price tag will not be lowered in the summer whether he goes on strike or not, our owners are very rich and very stubborn. I reckon you have Liverpool to thank for that price tag after how much they sold Coutinho for, and statistically speaking Mahrez is better than Coutinho anyway. Our owners are aware of this information, hence the large price tag. These are people who preferred to loan a fringe player in Slimani to Newcastle for free when they had a chance to sell to West Ham for decent money. All because of something West Ham board member Karen Brady said that they didn't like in an article in the sun. Rest assured that if Man City came back in the summer with a take it or leave it 65 million offer then our owners will tell you to do one and probably refuse to sell to you in the future. Your owners are minted and our owners are aware of this too, they aren't stupid. They are somewhat legends in Leicester because the club always comes first before money, manager or any player. If they say the price is 95 million then you have two options, pay it or don't pay it.
Well Ok that’s fine but it just isn’t how business works here . However good luck for the rest of season apart from our game obviously. Hope Mahrez gets his head down for you and then his move whatever that may be in the summer.
Edit I have just been thinking about this , it is possible that your owners could struggle to get players to commit long term if players feel held back, they will only sign short term or with a fixed option agreed, and that could harm you in the long run.

With his tax bill and assets frozen, he might need the money for bail.

All good and noble until nobody pays that money and your player ends up so fed up his form nosedives.

Though you are right some idiot will pay it.

Like I said earlier what counts here is your owners belief we are 'loaded' and will pay anything.

Unfortunately we actually have integrity and scruples and pay what we think a player is worth and will not overpay to unsettle the harmony of our squad.

You might see it as Leicester just being rightly determined to get the proper value from your player. Fair enough.

But you have misjudged how we do deals and it is not and never will be pay whatever it takes.

If it was we would have got Sanchez - a player who really wanted to come but then moved the financial goal posts over salary as Leicester did with fees since what they wanted for Mahrez last Summer.

He was our first choice and we walked and we will not be back at £95 m for Mahrez either. That's not how City do business happily.

I agree about Liverpool however and said so several posts before yours.

No doubt you will sell to them now. For £110 million maybe? It must go up given how it did since last Summer.

Good luck with that but do make sure you get them to pay what they got for Coutinho if Mahrez is better. On your argument you should get £155 million minimum from them for Mahrez.

Then you can buy Zaha from Crystal Palace for £156 million with the money.

Clubs don't want to accept clauses. Or if they did it would be on lower terms for the player.

I understand that there would be a trade between wages and buyout clause but the bottom line is the clubs would have to accept if they want to sign the player. Or the FA could make it mandatory as in Spain.

Currently a club can currently ask any fee they want effectively trapping a player at a club. A form of well paid modern slavery !

Me personally, I wouldn't begrudge Mahrez a move to Man City. At least it would be justified with trophies. What I couldn't bare though was if he joined Liverpool when he was linked early January, honestly wouldn't see the point in that, he'd probably win more at Leicester. A small part of me would have liked if Man City did meet the asking price and sign Mahrez, leaves on good terms and wins the Champions League with you guys this season, that would have completed one hell of a story for the lad because truth be told, I think winning that is a bridge too far for us probably even in my lifetime. All the best for the season, not that you need it the leagues in the bag. Best team we have faced all season.

Also for anybody wondering, we signed Mahrez for 400,000 and we have already profited on that through Mahrez shirts so we wouldn't actually be losing anything if we let him run down his contract. We literally hold all the cards when it comes to this particular player. Two and a half years left, no release clause, no financial pressure to sell to recuperate fee paid.
