Probably coz he thought he had an understanding. :( Feel bad for him. But he needs to get over it quickly and get back to work.

He will definitely move in the summer. Even if not to us... No need crying over spilled milk.
Get back to work for what? He had tried it all. He played badly - Roma's offer was deemed not high enough. He played at his best - the owners have upped the price.
He's finally realized his situation in all its grimness and has done a sensible thing, hiring Joorabchian to get him outta there.

This.

Mahrez wanted to leave in 2016 after winning the title but the owners convinced him with 100 grand a week to stay and have a go in the Champions League, with the agreement that they would accept bids that met their valuation of the player. Last summer Roma were the only club to make any real offer and it was laughable, something like 20 million, so we rejected. Man City are the only other club to come in for him, apparantly below the owners valuation. They haven't broken any promises with Mahrez and I can genuinely see why they are reluctant to sell for what they originally wanted after Van Donkey and Coutinho. I think it sends the right message personally, the owners' long term goal is for Leicester to be Champions League regulars and big clubs don't sell their best players unless the buying club are getting ripped off, they just don't. I think that is the image they are trying to portray.

Time will tell.

Also for anybody wondering, we signed Mahrez for 400,000 and we have already profited on that through Mahrez shirts so we wouldn't actually be losing anything if we let him run down his contract. We literally hold all the cards when it comes to this particular player. Two and a half years left, no release clause, no financial pressure to sell to recuperate fee paid.
Doesn't really work like that you will lose or gain on many players but right now he is worth quite a few million (say £70M as an example not because I think he is worth any particular fee)If he plays poorly and runs down his contract you will have lost that value.
Personally I don't necessarily blame your owners without knowing what promises may or may not have been given to Mahrez it's up to them whether or not they sell and what fee they demand.
Good luck with the rest of the season other than against us.

Couldn't agree more with this view. Seems Mahrez has been terribly naive. Didn't have a smart agent either by the sound of things.

Mahrez and Kante came from France to a Championship team and had a great journey with that team. However, Kante had a smart agent who made sure there was a realistic (for that time) clause on his contract and so was able to move on without much hassle.

If Mahrez is now depressed it could be as much from regret in not having a written agreement like Kante did as from not being able to win silverware i.e not moving to City this window.

Cutting to the chase but it seldom brings anygood if you have a player that wants to leave the club. Some circumstances yes it may work but a player being given the chance of all what playing for us in the coming months and seasons offers and being stopped by his club is not going to benefit anybody.

Leicester will pay the price because of Mahrez saga. i'm sure other Leicester player are seeing this mess and will considering their future. i would like to see player like Ndidi & Maguire, signing a new contract extension, or not.

Hi guys, Leicester fan here and I come in peace. From a Leicester perspective what I can tell you about Mahrez is that his 95 million price tag will not be lowered in the summer whether he goes on strike or not, our owners are very rich and very stubborn. I reckon you have Liverpool to thank for that price tag after how much they sold Coutinho for, and statistically speaking Mahrez is better than Coutinho anyway. Our owners are aware of this information, hence the large price tag. These are people who preferred to loan a fringe player in Slimani to Newcastle for free when they had a chance to sell to West Ham for decent money. All because of something West Ham board member Karen Brady said that they didn't like in an article in the sun. Rest assured that if Man City came back in the summer with a take it or leave it 65 million offer then our owners will tell you to do one and probably refuse to sell to you in the future. Your owners are minted and our owners are aware of this too, they aren't stupid. They are somewhat legends in Leicester because the club always comes first before money, manager or any player. If they say the price is 95 million then you have two options, pay it or don't pay it.

It's all well and good and can understand what your board is thinking. However, I think our board are looking at a lot of targets and not only being tied to Mahrez. So if you guys insist that he's 95mil then we will probably look to alternatives. I think Griezman for one has a buyout clause of 100mil. Not saying we'll get him, but that's an example. I think we put in a cheeky bid for him this past window because we wanted to see if Mahrez himself would put up a fuss to move (which he did) and maybe you guys would have to lower the price. You didn't budge on the price so we didn't bite. Now you have to deal with an unhappy player. We may go again in the summer, but like I said I know our board has alternatives and not hinge their bets on one player.

Basically Leicester thought they could get more money in the summer for him, thanks to the media 14 days ago, being ill advised by the media is stupidity, marhez is making sure he gets away, the longer he stays away the more likely they will sell at a reasonable rate, city’s offer was more than reasonable, Leicester have made a total balls up of this just like they did with Claudio ranieri

In the past though, it was Arsenal who were the suitors. And you know Arsenal historically are more flirts than the are serious suitors most of the time.

I think this is the first time there was a legitimate suitor who bid and stayed on it. Anyway, good luck to him. Hope he gets his wish come summer.
Well by all accounts on the last day of the summer window he was sat in an airport, waiting for someone to put in a bid so he could get there as quick as possible. He didn't know who, but he had his agent desperately searching for someone, so his current strike seems like it's been a long time coming tbh
