So if City valued De Bruyne at £200m, and Barcelona offered £110m and refused to go higher,
and De Bruyne said he didn't want to play for City any more,
And City wouldn't sell unless they got the amount of money he's worth,
Would that be treating him terribly too?
We didn't pay £400.000 for KDB.

The chances of becoming regulars in the top 6 is next to none? What a load of rubbish, never thought I'd hear a Man City fan say that. People would have been saying that about your club only 7 or 8 years ago.
That’s not what he said though is it? He said the chances of becoming regulars in the CL with the current top six is next to nothing. I think most people would accept that. To break regularly into the CL from where you are is nigh on impossible without a massive spend or an overhaul of the FFP rules

Is he really comparing kdb with Marez? Our owners would not have acted the same as Leicester’s given the same set of circumstances.

Why Leicester would still wanna keep Mahrez after he basically announced to the world that he doesn't wanna play for them anymore is beyond me. You won't be applauding him when he does go back playing, and booing him would be worse. That's just terrible business from Leicester however you look at it. And btw, what awful way you treat a player that gave you so much success.
Greed. In the Summer they turned down a series of bids from Roma who refused or were unable to pay £50m. Now they say city valued the player at £60m or £65m but wanted £95m. The market is inflated but not to that extent. PSG sold Moura who is an outstanding player in the same category for £25m. Aubameyang moved for £55m. He's their player, but I believe they have just antagonised their player.

Speculation. I wonder if we switched attention from Sanchez in the Summer to mahrez? That would explain Simon Stone's BBC report that it was Leicester who contacted us at the end of the window with the suggestion of a move for £95m. They knew we were in for a forward and wanted to maximise a situation in which they saw Sane and Jesus were injured?

Well this is quite simple. You need outstanding players to get into the top 6.

You have two ways of getting them:

Academy. Once in a while a Harry Kane comes along. But it's rare. Very rare
Transfer market. Difficult now that we have financial restrictions on players. You did it once in the transfer market. Mahrez for example cost £400k, but most times you need to spend big to guarantee a good buy otherwise it's a lottery. And all the time Leicester will be vulnerable to players leaving - as we have seen.

I think Leicester can get into the top 6, but you'll need one or two of the top clubs to stumble, and you'll need to invest money, and you'll need rivals like Everton to continue to throw money away.

Manchester City did it at the time when there was no financial restriction and with respect we started off as a bigger club. I accept that these things change very quickly in the modern game

That might upset him!!!!

Aubameyang is a true goal scorer, 13 league goals in 16 league appearances this season, 31 league goals last season and 25 league goals the season before and went to Arsenal for only £55m. Leicester asking £80m+ for Mahrez is ludicrous.

I fully understand Mahrez’s current protest, they asked for silly money, he is telling them Auba went for £55m, Giroud £18m, Lucas Moura £25m and you won’t accept £60m for me???

Still hasn’t shown up for training I believe, hopefully he comes back this week and plays against us while sulking.

Leicester are a joke, Kante went for only £32m and was their best player who left them and won POTY. I really hope Mahrez continues not trying and they are forced to sell him for much less than the £60m offered.

Agree on this. But the last sentence only if they sell him to us. Last thing we want is him going to the bastards in Trafford for £10m and a bag of oranges.

Haha.

I hope he does join us. His price should drop, depending on how much he plays and how well, £30m would be a steal.

The big difference here is De Bruyne undervalued at 110m while Mahrez was overvalued at 95m. We can argue about that all day. But if De Bruyne wasn't happy, we would gladly sell him, even at 110m, i might say even less. We rarely if ever made profits off of our players since the takeover.
