Fowler likely to escape celebration punishment
Monday, 27 December 2004
Robbie Fowler will face no disciplinary action from his club over his goal celebration at Goodison Park yesterday - and seems unlikely to face an FA investigation either.
The Manchester City striker ran down the touchline smacking the top of his head after equalising during his side's 2-1 defeat to Everton, in response to home fans' ugly taunts.
It brought back memories of Fowler's 'coke snorting' celebration on the same ground five years ago when he was still a Liverpool player, a move which earned him a four-match ban and a £64,000 fine.
Fowler was booked for the celebration - but only because he left the pitch - and while Merseyside Police felt it necessary to speak with City boss Kevin Keegan after yesterday's match, they confirmed no action would be taken.
Keegan has been quick to defend the striker and Blues officials confirmed this morning Fowler will not face any club sanction over his celebration.
Although the FA may review the incident on Wednesday as a matter of course, any further action is highly unlikely.
