Roberto Mancini

Re: Mancini on Sky talking about City

Unfortunately mancini hasn't got the record in Europe to ever get the top job back at city always be a legend at city but no way would we go back and nor we should do!

Re: Mancini on Sky talking about City

Mancini's days were numbered from the minute Cook went out the door. Soriano was in and just like many other clubs, directions change.

Mancini was getting better with us each year, we were making progress, right up until the players became bigger than the manager. Now going by the history books, managers who tend to come across as absolute bullies in clubs do very well. Ferguson had a stranglehold of THAT club and in some aspect still does. If you questioned the manager, you were out the door. And that's how it should be.

2012/13 was a strange season though, the summer transfers being the biggest factor of them all. Players were coming in that had absolutely no effect whatsoever. Granted that FFP was now in play, but that wasn't an excuse for players to put in so many half arsed performances. In previous years, the board was publicly singing the managers praises, then it all went very quiet. He was undermined the entire season, not just by the board, but by the players aswell. And of course the players (we won't mention any names) got what they wanted and he was gone, paying the ultimate slap in the face not just to the manager, but to the fans aswell with a non performance at Wembley against Wigan.

Mancini was a great manager for us, but it's in the past, he has a relatively good legacy with the club. And one poor season from everyone all around isn't going to tarnish our first league title in 44 years.

As for the original question though on him coming back, right now we have a manager. And so far, this season is looking all very familiar... so going by previous mistakes, the right thing to do would be to back the current manager. Pellegrini can also be a good manager, whose players are currently not giving him their best effort for unknown reasons.

Re: Mancini on Sky talking about City

The manager to drag the club kicking and screaming to where it needed to be. A legend in my eyes. We move on

Re: Mancini back to Inter?

He talks about City and life in England

Im going to back out of this thread now as it will go like every other has gone......round and round and round.

Bob did a great job and will rightly go in the history books.
Exactly, and the club got rid of him for what they saw as very good reasons, we'd regressed.

We then improved again under a new manager, who we will ultimately regress under again (we already might have, but the season is only just over half way), and who as a result will be replaced by another new manager, its how football works from top to bottom.

I find it easier not to get too attached to any of them, as there's nothing more certain, than a new one will be along sooner or later.

Ah well; that's it then. Get the bescarfed one back in!

I enjoyed the interview. Bobby will always be a legend in my eyes for bringing us our first major trophy for 35 years, and in so doing, tearing down that pathectic banner, and our first title for 44 years, for the Sick Swan and standing up to GPC in the return fixture that same season.

And for many other magical moments in those wonderful three and-a-half years.

But it was the right time for him to go. And now I'm supporting Pellers in the same way I backed RM during his tenure.

Onwards and upwards.

Mancini was the right man for at the right time just as Pellegrini is the right man at the moment. However I think Mancini is better at what he does than Pellegrini is at what he brings. If that makes sense.

And for the highlighted section the Dog & Duck are in the situation they are in now.

He is an unbelievable builder. Apart from Mourinho and Ferguson I cannot think of one better in recent times. The job he did at City was very underrated by the media. Just look at how your neighbours are doing, from a much higher starting point. PSG have spent a lot of money and with the attraction of Paris able to get top tier players, but look at them.

Maybe he upsets too many people and is short tempered, but if I had to build a team would take Mancini over Ancelotti.

When he was sacked, I felt like it was the right thing to do. Maybe not at that exact time, but that a new manager would be beneficial for the club.

But I have to admit I miss the man; - what a character he is! And I get the feeling he really enjoyed his time here with us.

Went toe to toe with the best manager this league's known and whooped his arse. Too right he enjoyed being with us.

I wouldn't go as far as saying he is unbelievable builder but he certainly knows about domestic football.

Built this City team and a lot of the Inter team. Did so quickly without a lot of money as well in the case of Inter. I am struggling to think of a manager better in recent times at building apart from the two I have mentined.

EDIT

To be fair I forgot Wenger, who is very underrated at this too. He just has not had money for 8 years and constantly had to sell his best players.

Summed up perfectly. Bobby had no bigger advocate than me, was the right man at the right time and played a key part in our clubs resurgence.

While I'll always have a tremendous liking and respect for the man, we've moved on.

Both very good posts. We have moved on but don't anyone try and tell me pellers is an upgrade on bobby. It's pretty obvious he's not.
I shouldn't have to tell a fellow mod and Bluemoon's leading WUM that we don't want to get into a Mancini v Pellegrini debate again. In their different ways, they're both very good managers but neither are without their faults.

I don't agree with kazzydeyna that people who saw Mancini's faults are of the Colin Shindler tendency. No City fan should or will ever forget or be less than grateful for where he took us but neither should they underestimate the issues behind the scenes that were of his making. There was utter carnage behind the scenes and unfortunately something had to give. That's certainly high among the reasons why he would never be back while the current ownership is in place.

But when all that's said and done, January 2010 to May 2013 saw some of the most memorable moments of my not inconsiderable years as a City fan. Perhaps very few, if any, other managers could have done what he did for us at that time so he was probably the right man in the right place at the right time.

I didn't make it clear in my post, I certainly wasn't suggesting that all who were against Mancini were Colin schindlers, or even that the majority of them were.

But I do believe that a sizeable minority of them (they know who they are) ARE a little Schindler-esque, for the reasons I stated earlier.

You only have to wonder why some of the anti-Mancini crowd were so enamoured with Hughes. In my view it is because Hughes wasn't a threat to little City. If he'd stayed for much longer he would possibly have derailed the whole project. Certainly he would have further ingrained the image of our being "the club for cock ups" (all that money spent and still shit).

I always have a mental image of them, dressed like Paul Calf, deliberately exaggerating their manc accent, constantly calling people "our kid", a bit like Kevin and Perry when they went to Manchester that time.

They're hilarious.

Hughes didn't have a clue in organising the players at his disposal and did deserve the sack but does deserve a little bit of credit in either signing or identifying the players that were key in our first title winning side and us winning the FA cup.
