Roberto Martinez - new manager of Portugal (p 5)

Incredible that even at National level football bosses make some very weird decisions.

What has Martinez ever done at management level to justify getting these prestigious jobs?
League One champions with Swansea, Stayed up in the Prem for three seasons with WIGAN and won them an FA Cup, beating a side some of you may know in the final, and outperformed every Everton manager that has followed since.

All whilst playing quality football. Don’t forget, a lot of you’s were calling for him to replace Mancini.

He did a good job everywhere he’s been, including Belgium where he finished third in the 2018 World Cup, their best ever finish, and got them to number one ranking in the world 2018-2022. They might have had a great generation by their standards but those achievements weren’t exactly nailed on for that squad.

"He did a good job everywhere he’s been"

That's a matter of huge debate.

Okay, well this is a debate and I just made the case for exactly that right above

He made Ali Al Habsi and Emmerson Boyce look good ffs

I didn't hear a single City supporter call for him to be City manager at any point. Utter myth to say his teams play good football... his team's have always been dirty. His pathetic backing of an awful Roger East decision that was as nailed on a penalty as you'd ever see (Everton were awarded a goal kick) pretty much summed the snide, rat faced cheat up to a tee.

every one remembers the open top bus parades for that...
It’s an achievement, not an easy one, and not one that side wouldn’t be near expected to achieve.

Same with third in the World Cup. Belgium overachieved. Some credit for that has to go to the manager.

Have a look back in the forums. It was a popular call on here. And yes, in the real world too, there was chatter. He was in the talk for the England job as well!

CBA looking... probably all posted by wigan fans pretending to be City supporters, like you.

My favourite was when he was a summarise on BBC for Villa v City. We scored a legitimate goal, but it was flagged offside. Cameras proved the mistake, and Martinez said "the linesman did well to flag there".
