Robinho

Yep. I thought the same, but looking back, I don't recall much disappointment when Hart replaced him in 2010.

Wasn't Given out with a shoulder separation or something so was going to be on the shelf a long while? I thought I remember Hart got a run in and it was obvious pretty quickly he was better (certainly younger and English).

Shay Given; a bad signing? Go on then, I'll bite. Please explain.

How difficult is it to understand the word "arguably"?
Given arrived for a lot of money, and seemed a good signing.. Overall he was a better keeper than Hart, but not at City.
However, my original point was in the context of Robinho being a poor signing., and in my opinion, Given offered City less.

That's right but my original point was in the context of Robinho, who in my opinion, offered City more than Given

He scored 14 league goals in 31 appearances in his first season playing on the left wing, where the opposition would double or sometimes even triple up on him because of the lack of threat in the rest of our team at the time.

In his prime he'd score 30 a season in our team now.

Signed Brazil's talisman for a big fee and people wanted him to run about like Darius Vassell.

I do not think this is correct bud. I say that because look at Ronaldinho, look at Yaya (at Barca), Nasri, Hart. All very vocal players who tend to have problems with authority. They were given the boot as soon as he could get them out the door.

None of these were sold because of attitude issues.

Ronaldinho - Past his prime, Pep wanted to usher in the new guard (The Messi era).

Yaya - Wasn't the right player for Pep's system and he wasn't good enough to displace any of Busquets, Xavi or Iniesta so he moved on.

Nasri - Pep has said that he wanted to keep Nasri at the time but Nasri wanted guarantees of first team football which Pep could give.

Hart - See Yaya.

Zlatan is one example of someone who couldn't get along with Pep, but Pep still brought performances out of him (for the first 75% of the season before he decided to move Messi to the middle, anyway).

How do you think he would have done under Pep if we signed him in present day conditions?

He was supposed to be Brazil's next big thing and while he has 100 caps to his name, he fell well short of the billing. Not to do with talent because his natural talent which he showed at Santos, Madrid and his first year in an average team here could be mindblowing. Application and ethic definitely held him back but that's why I ask the question because a 24 year old Robinho when we signed him from Real Madrid had the world at his feet and if he were in this City team with this manager driving him on every day I think he'd have gone to the very top.
Not a prayer for him in this team lazy fucker

There is a fantastic article in the Athletic today about Robinho with lots of contributions from players at the club at the time and even a quote from @Gary James

One bit of Typical City was when the fax was sent to Real Madrid to confirm the transfer it was put through upside down so all Real got was a blank document. The main gist of it was how disruptive Robinho & his mate Elano were. One of the many incidents was when Hughes took the squad to Tenerife for warm weather training & Robinho decided to fly to Brazil for a friends birthday party. The problem was he didn’t tell the management what he was doing and none of his Brazilian clique would say either.

I think you can safely file him under Flawed Genius.
