There will be thousands coming over if nothing's done about it.
Britain is known to have the most appealing benefits system in Europe, as the guy on the interview says, so most will head for Britain.

I though what Sarkozy did in France was slightly over the top and can be the start of a slippery slope in terms of rounding people up and chucking them out of the country.

I do think pressure has to be put on the EU to do more to stop large scale emmigration of a certain race/community. Social problems faced in an EU country should be dealt with in that country, not by taking the easy way out and encouraging mass emigration.

Quote'' Sky News was told 90% of the Roma who have been deported from France have now left the village for Britain, Germany or Spain, in the belief those countries represent a softer option.''

Quote from The Economist ''Announced last month by the French president and his ministers, the decision to dismantle Gypsy camps will see some 700 people with Romanian passports sent back to the country by the end of August. A first batch of 79 travellers is due to arrive in Bucharest today; another 131 have been sent to Timisoara.'' (must still be on there way home from the match)

So .... In TOTAL to date 90% of 700 = 630 divided by the three country's quoted =210

Yes we will be swamped!

That's why I wont give Sky a penny the ''opinion'' they spew is just crass and scaremongering at the very least.

Take a look at Fox News in the US to see how bad things can get, thank the heavens for the BBC.

"I'm going to the uk. The benefit system is more generous there". That's what he said. I kid you not.

I get what your saying, although the Roma migrant problem has been around for a while. Here is an article from a couple of years ago about Slough (Roma reference towards the bottom of the article).

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article1812940.ece" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/u ... 812940.ece</a>

The same has happened in Peterborough and other towns in the UK.

I believe immigration generally is good for the country, but only if the people are bringing skills that we need (not air freshener salesmen). This problem with the Roma community should be solved in Romania - not the UK.

How many "car air fresheners" can you buy for 300 Euro .......... the London based Ambi Pure Mafia are not going to be happy.

Have there been mass invasions of peoples from within the EU.....

The article you quote is from May 2007?

Are there some problems with migration policy probably? It's far from perfect but the majority of immigrants come from Europe and as members are allowed to under current legislation just as Brits are allowed to settle in Spain for example.

My reply was based more on the attitude of the Murdoch media empire and the way they own the news and their 'position' on articles as above.

more tolerant and welcoming here ?

if they've read the drivel preceding perhaps they'll think better of it

the new persecution starts here next

I have no problem with anybody coming to britain who wants to further their prospects by working hard, therefore contributing too. I do have an issue with a person who's only motive is a generous benefit system.
