Romeo Lavia

He looked very decent, but I wasn't like wow! However, like Paqueta could he flourish more in a team with better players, than at a team wading through the treacle of a relegation dog fight?
50m is quite the fee tho for someone who COULD be better, he looked a tidy player but nowhere near the world beater that he is being touted as

I suppose the only way to test the hypothesis is to cough up the £50m Southampton want & see.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was touted as the new Wayne Rooney when he burst on the scene. It's sobering to see him as a free agent at 30 looking for a team in Turkey.

You can never tell how a career will pan out. Personally I'd say Lavia needs a couple of seasons in the PL to properly assess his true potential.

No one will know the kid better than City, & it's telling we're not exercising our buy back option, when we're in desperate need to rest & rotate Rodri. \0/

I believe the sell on fee would reduce our nett payment to 40m

Is it more like Kovacic than Rodri that Lavia is?

And if so then Kovacic was cheaper and more proven.

We were like shit off a hot shovel where Kova was concerned, & we could've made our interest in Lavia known at any time last season, but didn't.

Lavia's a good young player, but £50m makes me gulp! \0/

The coaching staff and Pep had a good long look at Lavia when he was here and made the call to let him go. They are not infallible but looks like they have seen nothing yet to change there minds. He has looked decent enough when I have watched him but think the juxtaposition of his season and Philips is distorting perceptions. Phillips might not be the cover we need for Rodri but it does'n't mean Lavia is.

It might also that we know Lavia 's thinking on coming back and the reasons he wanted to leave are the reason he might not want to come back.

I Think you maybe right. There were reports from a City insider this week saying Philips had even failed to convince or impress in training, hence the club have huge doubts about him.

We've been in poll position for Lavia for 12 months, & seem happier with the sell on fee than exercising our buyback option.

It speaks volumes...

Heard that one a few months ago as well.

Thought the noise from Rodri about not being able to play 60 game a season was potentially a give away about the standing of Phillips in the squad. Would not have been happy if I was Kalvin with the assumption by Rodri that there was such limited options for covering his role. Sounds as though he has not convinced Rodri about his ability to step up. Hope he somehow proves everyone wrong but does not look like it will happen for Kalvin at city.

Until yesterday I had hope for Kalvin, but after Rodri's comments, I can personally only take what he said one way.

It's a veiled resignation that the player brought in to challenge & rotate with him hasn't worked, & he's being rinsed to the point that he fears for his health.

Imagine being Philips & reading that report, then having to face Rodri in training the following day? Kalvin must be feeling like shit. His fresh start has crumbled before the season's begun!

Set to join Chelsea. I've lost track of what they have spent and who they have bought.

I do think they need him and Caicedo though, they looked weak in there today with Gallagher sitting.

So what happens next, Chelsea agree a fee with Southampton, only for Lavia to day he only wants to play for Liverpool?

Liverpool missing another DM target. Still hope they could get desperate enough to take Phillips!

Haven't they recouped a fuck load in sales though? Regardless, they should be able to spend what they want; FFP is a cartel construction that should be razed.
