Rony Lopes

Suarez is doing well though for Villareal. There's a reason Barca want to invoke their buy-back clause. What I don't understand is why we don't insert buy-back clauses/first refusals on our youth players.
Who is to say we don't? Transfers are often more transparent in other countries due to their contracts requiring buyout clauses and public ownership.

Suarez wanted to leave and was to the final year of his contract. We are still in line for quite a few bonuses if/when he plays for Barca's first team.

I imagine City are absolutely desperate to get an academy player in the first team for a variety of reasons, but they're only going to do it when they have someone they believe deserves it on merit. They're not going to do it for the sake of it. Lopes, Pozo and Suarez weren't deemed good enough and nothing so far has suggested we made the wrong call.

Iheanacho and Denayer are the first ones I think to truly merit inclusion, and as such are the acid test. If either player left permanently due to lack of opportunities then I think questions need to be asked. I'm hopeful that Guardiola will place greater trust in them.

Quite frankly I don't get the clamour for throwing kids into the first team. Perfectly understandable if/when there's a player who's good enough, but too many times in recent weeks and months i've read that player X should have played even though he's barely ever even made the bench because one of our first team International experienced players is injured.

The journey from EDS level football to challenging for a title is absolutely fucking enormous. We should be taking the softly softly approach that we are, and we certainly shouldn't be pushing players into the first team just as some kind of 'show' that we are good at youth development.

As for Lopes, classic case of agent/money driving a transfer rather than football. Went to Monaco who were going to immediately loan him out. Now they want rid permanently. Hope he does go to Lille though. Decent place for him to go and develop playing more first team football.

Hopefully he goes back to us

I'd guess the reason barca want to invoke their buy-back clause is that they feel his resale value will be higher than the fee agreed to in his buy-back clause.

Would he count as a h/g player if he did come back to us? Honestly I think it's unlikely now that he'd come back. I'm more encouraged by the quality we have at u- 21's and u - 18's level currently. I would expect in the next few years to slowly see one or two make their way into the first team picture like Kelechi has.
