On the pitch he’s famed for his artistry and flair. But when it comes to his skills on paper, it’s fair to say Wayne Rooney doesn’t find playing for a draw easy– if this self-portrait is anything to go by.
The United goal scorer was among a host of Premier League stars to sketch their portraits for a book to be auctioned-off for charity.
But despite Rooney’s effort looking like it would not be out of place at an infant school,
experts reckon the image suggests a ‘hidden sensuality’ in the 24-year-old.
Professional graphologist Emma Bache said: “His art might not be something he’s well known for, but the way he’s done his face is Picasso-esque.
“Looking at his picture, it has a very large head and prominent eyes and mouth.
“He has used a blue pen for his eyes and a red pen for his mouth, the latter suggesting a sensuality.”
To be fair to the striker, his fellow stars did not set the art world alight either.
The picture by Rooney’s captain Rio Ferdinand is arguably the best of a bad bunch, with his profile featuring a prominent nose, but Michael Owen’s
attempt bore little resemblance to himself. And aside from his trademark stubble, Ryan Giggs stick man was hard to identify as the Reds’ veteran.
Across the great divide, City stars Nigel De Jong and Carlos Tevez also struggled to capture their inner Van Gogh.
Other footballers to featured are Carlo
Ancelotti, Robin van Persie and Harry Redknapp.
The leather-bound book, put together
by Premier League World – a British football TV show broadcast around the globe – it will be auctioned on Monday in aid of the Nordoff Robbins charity for music therapy.
The invitation-only auction will be held in London, but online bids can be made at nordoff -robbins.org.uk
