ROQUE Santa Cruz is set to trigger an escape clause in his contract and join Manchester City for £17m next month.

Sam Allardyce put on a bold face when unveiled as the new Blackburn manager yesterday, claiming he will not have to sell anyone in the transfer window.

But M.E.N. Sport understands the striker has a release clause in his contract that allows him to speak to any club that makes Rovers an offer of 18m euros.

The fee is too much for Aston Villa, whose interest has cooled, leaving City in the driving seat.

Santa Cruz has told friends he is keen to team up again with City boss Hughes, who took him to Ewood Park at the start of last season.

a lot of people on here dont like him but i think he is what we need.
he has not been as effective this season for 2 reasons

he had a different manager who may not have played to his strenghs

his main supply was transfered ( bentley )

with the proper service he will do well for us
