140 years ago today, one of the greatest battles in the history of the British army took place against the zulu warriors at rorke’s drift.

But an entirely unnecessary war against allies provoked by an adventurer who wanted to make a name for himself. When Parliament learned what had happened, they censured him and finished his career.

Rorke's Drift was a magnificent defence. The Anglo-Zulu war was a disgrace even to imperialists.

You're correct with this, the war was indeed provoked, so I suppose censure is justified.
However, the Zulus were formed into Africa's most devastating military force by Chaka, they're sole
intent was total subjugation of neighbouring Bantu tribes, and any other peoples by use of their ruthlessly
efficient army, which is about as imperialistic as you can get.

Totally concur about that.
