Royal Wedding

I had a meeting in Henley the other day, followed by another in a pub three miles upstream on the Thames - and I remarked to myself that when the sun is out, and the days are long, and the trees are in full bloom, nowhere on earth comes close.
England is beautiful....you just have to get out of town a bit. Went up over the tops, past Dovestones toward Yorkshire, and my American wife si ply said, “How could you leave this for America?” If only she knew what LIFE was like for a poor kid in and around Manc in the 70s!

When I fly over the country, it is amazing how beautiful it looks from above. Even the cities have far more green space than one might imagine. And, it is not restricted to one area of the country.

I can only imagine how beautiful it is along the Thames this time of year. The American broadcasters were all along the river and it looked ridiculous.

Off topic but as you are from Chicago, my mate (Kelvin) was telling a few of us in the pub he and his wife had booked to go to the Windy City. They are both keen cyclists and did the Dovestone Reservoir regularly. One of the lads mentioned Lake Michigan was relatively close to Chicago, Kelvin's missus said to him, "we could hire bikes and cycle round it" Just like they did at Dovestones!

Quality!

It’s such a big place. Love it personally. Never had anything other than an amazing trip, whenever I’ve gone. Done 26 States now, and now I’m over the hump, I’m determined to visit the lot.

Would love to go but it's Spain this year!! 26 states, that's a lot of diversity.

Yes, I’ve got a good spread. North western states like @idahoblues and the mid-eastern seaboard below DC are my big gaps, geographically. Annoyingly missed off Rhode Island when I did New England in 2005. Did all the other NE States. Just done six States in the Deep South in two weeks. I’m do my best to go back, next year. Quite fancy the Rockies.

As you're obviously aware, the States out west are very big, Wyoming alone is twice as big as England with about half a million residents. It's hard to see so much country but if you ever get up this way give me a shout, I can point you in the direction of some great drives way off the beaten path.
Did you ever check out the King's Head in Wadenhoe (Northants) ?
