really ?- i see nothing there that reminds me of Kompany at all - looks ok but nothing at that level
Similar height, build, leader, aggresive, defender first, confronts attackers immediately like Vinnie, decent ball playing, aerially both very good, similar pace. He's very Kompany esque.
Kompany was 6.4 wasnt he? Dias is 6.2.
Build - kompnay was a machine - this guy looks a bit more gangly
I see what you mean about front foot defending which is definitely a postive as well as the passing
Pace - he looks slower than Vinnie to me
He doesn’t look a bad defender, but I don’t think he is what we need right now. We already lacked pace at the back and Dias only makes that worse. For all Stones’ mistakes, he is at least reasonably quick.
Dias doesn’t look any quicker than Laporte. If we play with Mendy/Zinchenko on the left and Rodri/Fernandinho in front then we will be easy pickings for a quick front three. Comparisons to VVD are ridiculous.
A Laporte-Dias partnership will probably do well against the likes of Burnley. I fear for our chances against a Liverpool, United, Spurs or even Arsenal. We lack the legs in midfield to close space and will be extremely vulnerable to counter attacks when playing a high line.
Difficult to understand why we have built fairly one paced squad when our style of play requires pace ideally? He doesn’t look a bad defender, but I don’t think he is what we need right now.
