Rugby League Season 2023

Incredible that Warrington are still second! We have been absolutely shite for weeks now. To be honest some of the early wins were lucky too.
Yeah mate I'd say the only 2 comfortable wins I can remember early on were Leeds at home and Castleford away where we hammered them both. Ironically we've had them exact 2 fixtures this last week and lost both pretty comfortably.

I thought we were doing okay early on, nothing special but we've definitely gone to shit since Mikaele left.

We won't be second after this weekends games and with Saints and Wigan next, we'll be very close to dropping out the top 6 I reckon.

Can’t see a way up at the moment. Awful performances and confidence gone.

Peter Mata'utia and Ben Currie are rubbish. Never been impressed with Peanut at Wire and Currie hasn’t been a good player since his last knee operation about six years ago.
Is George Williams out for a while? Wire seemed to be lacking a player who would run the ball to the line and make a decent attacking pass or kick. I don’t thin Leeds were a lot better but at least Blake Austin took responsibility to be the focal point for Leeds’ attacks.

It looks like another season where the inconsistency of other potential top teams will open the door for the Saints Dippers to be champs again. Hopefully not though

No such thing as luck. Wire were just on a good run of form to start the season, we weren’t as good as that run suggested but we weren’t lucky. We’re now on a run of poor form. We’re probably not as bad as this run suggests either, it’s just a streaky season and our true quality is somewhere in the middle of both runs of form.

This Wire team isn’t a top side yet. Too many areas of weakness. Players like Mata'utia and Currie, supposed senior members of the squad, just bring absolutely fuck all to games. Neither of them ever do anything, a team will win nowt with players who do nothing.

But at the start of the season the aim should have been to improve on last season and try and finish in the play-offs. That’s the level of this team and it’s likely we’ll end up finishing between 4th-8th depending on form and injuries for the rest of the season. So it’ll be a good season overall… with the aim to build on our weaknesses and get bloody Connor Wrench in this team, he’s mustard.

Losing Mikaele seems to have drained some go forward and crash-ball tries close to the line. Maguire’s antics could have lessened team spirit. And outside a handful of players, we’re a very little team and can get steamrolled too easily.

He’s done his hamstring. They said another two weeks so will probably miss both the Saints and Wigan games.

Saints still have the best team in the comp. They’ve just had a funny season with building their pre-season around the World Club Challenge and then relaxing after winning that, it was like a rubber stamp on them being the best team of the decade.

You see it time and time again in sport, once you relax after being brilliant, it’s hard to get back up to those levels, especially immediately.

Look at City, we were brilliant for months, then rested everyone against Chelsea Brighton and Brentford and we were pretty average (or, at least, nowhere near the top of our game) in the two finals because that run of form that got us to them had gone out of the system.
