Russia detects possible signal from "sun like star"

I only believe in what I can see and feel...but often wonder what is after the infinity of space.

I mean it has to end ...........I cannot grasp infinity...It's mind blowing.

As for made up God figures in the bible and other such man made books.....load of garbage

To Boffins can't fugure it all out either. But top Boffins couldn't understand or I should say prove gravitational waves and the Higgs Bosun until this year.

Every day another wee but is added.

Astronomer Carl Sagan is best known for hosting the TV series “Cosmos.” He rejected the label of “atheist” because he was open to the possibility that science would perhaps one day find compelling evidence to prove God. Nevertheless, he thought that the likelihood of that happening was very small. Instead, Sagan talked about “spirituality“ as something that happens within the realm of material world, when humans encounter nature and are filled with awe.

So he's admitted to being an agnostic by saying someday scientists MIGHT find God, but he thinks it very unlikely.

That's not the same as stating something must be God because we haven't figured it out yet is it? That's antiscientific and someone well respected wouldn't say that.

There are things that even scientists cannot explain............No one can prove anything either way

Prof Brian Cox: 'There’s a naivety in saying there is no God’

Yup. But I absolutely refuse to believe that there's.....someone much brighter than you.
So tell me again, it all began with a big bang did it?..that's quite an extraordinary claim....or theory.

No one can say for absolute certainty that it was a Big Bang. That is where all the available evidence so far points. We may discover additional
evidence. That word that religion hates. It might change or enhance the understanding of the beginning or transformation from another universe or whatever.

One thing that is a fact though. Well ok a couple.

The earth and universe were not created in six days.

The earth is not flat.

The sun doesn't orbit the earth.

Adam never existed.

Stars cannot fall to the earth on judgement day. It would take a wee while for them all to get here.

And snakes, apart from Ka obviously can't and never have been able to talk.

Thanks for saying I'm Clever even if you don't mean it. I will ignore that piece of information that I'm not clever though and focus on your words as they make me feel better.

Just like religious people do.

Sagan is a hero of mine. One if the immortals. Dead now right enough.

I am Also open to the possibility of a god but like Carl think he really needs to up his game in terms of showing himself other than on a biscuit or that dogs arse.

Using physics that is beyond me, Prof Cox explains how his fridge shows that there is no afterlife (thermodynamics, apparently). But then he qualifies himself. “Philosophers would rightly point out that physicists making bland and sweeping statements is naive. There is naivety in just saying there’s no God; it’s b------s,” he says. “People have thought about this. People like Leibniz and Kant. They’re not idiots. So you’ve got to at least address that.”

The reason it's so difficult to see God is because we are already part of God viewing it only in 3 dimensions.

If you accept the limitations of our 3d world and minds, and can grasp the idea of other dimensions, faith is all you can have.

And it's your opinion that my beliefs are all based on the narrow minded simple suppositions that you have listed....fair enough.

Typical bluemoon. A thread about the possible discovery of intelligent life somewhere in the universe descends into a petty bickering about religion.
Whose derailed it this time? Was it a sly dig at the god botherers or did they just get offended by science again?
