I think if there is life out there it should be irrelevant to us and it should be irrelevant to them as we are too far away for it to matter. It's just a waste of thinking time and resources imo.

Instead I think all intelligence not going into making the world a safer and happier place to live should be concentrating on "life after earth". We know something will hit us eventually so start developing plans for that as quickly as technology allows. Everything else is a distraction.

Similarly I think all the global warming debates are a waste of time and resources from intelligent people. We know the climate changes and whether it's because of us or something else it'll come sooner or later. we should be fully engaged in adapting and protecting people from the worst impacts.

We have a lot of investment in satisfying curiosity when we should be investing in change (but you need strong leaders for that and we don't seem to have them anymore).

(P.S. We as citizens aren't ever really asked to do anything - just crap that someone can make money off of. If we collectedly spent 1 hour of manual labour we could build flood defenses for example.)

If there are any aliens after readying this I apologize for calling you irrelevant. I'm sure you're a lovely alien.

True enough. The biggest problem we face is over population though. More consumers. No one is doing a damn thing about it, and it will see the planet off in time.

I wholeheartedly agree about it being the biggest problem. People talk about stopping Climate Change be being more green but meanwhile more kids are born so any gains are wiped out. We need to adapt and make it a happy and safe place for these kids to grow up in. And hopefully try to work on ways to reduce the birthrate (rather than waiting for disease and poverty to take care of it). This should be all rolled up into the climate change action plan.

Cutting Ireland's herd in half or growing more trees in the UK are wasting time. Instead send 100 of the most intelligent people from both countries to China and India and Africa to address the real issue and make plans.
