Russian invasion of Ukraine

Johnson did say that they’re anticipating taking in hundreds of thousands in the coming months, though that is admittedly little comfort to those seeking refuge now.

Presumably Ukrainians flying into Dublin could rather easily make their way into Ulster.

I heard that - I'm baffled as to how long it would take to get to that number.

BBC reporting that the Lille visa application centre was news to the Lille authorities, they heard about it from British media. There isn't anything obvious there either, and the Ukrainians holed up in Calais hostels have no-one visiting them to keep them informed.

According to Ben Wallace.

We have sent 3600 NLAWs

We are going to start sending Javelins and the new Starstreak anti aircraft missile - which is significant because they go at over 3,000 mph.

Modern fighters can go around 1300mph, Stinger missiles do about 1400mph, so they can be outrun over the 5 miles or so the missile has fuel for. Can’t outrun a starstreak.
Having checked Wiki, the javelin appears a fearsome anti tank weapon. Carried by one man, Auto targetting and tracking of even moving targets and has a range of 2.5km. Who would be a tank crew in this day and age. Just my thoughts as a geologist and not a military person. ;-)

So it is being talked about today that we might send ukraine anti tank and anti aircraft weapons , thought we were the first in the world to give them these weapons ? Every minister and the clown in charge have been bragging about it , worst lies than the mad russian himself
As much I hate the we were first bollocks from Westminster, it’s pretty evident the first shipments into Ukraine after the invasion were efp stock from Poland, similarly it was rapid trident stock from October exercises where 15k Ukrainian army personnel were trained on using them amongst other tactical lessons that were the primary line of armour resistance.
So whilst being true it has fuck all to do with anything anyone in Westminster did.

Quite a change in rhetoric today, sounds like Russia is now only asking for demilitarisation of the Donbas region. Going to be interesting to see how the talks between the foreign ministers go tomorrow.
Won't happen,IMO.......it's Malitias in that region.

Seems like the worst job going right now.

The Russians have started welding a sort of cage on top of their tanks (the missiles fly up in the air and come down on the roof of the tank where the armour is thinner.

Based on the number of destroyed tanks and APCs with cages welded on the top it seems to have made no difference at all.

Even the Vinson wouldn't see a hypersonic missile coming, sadly.

They have invested heavily in these new generation missiles which move five times the speed of sound and can take out a carrier without a blip on the radar.

The US are about 18 months behind on hypersonics.

The cruise or hypersonic missile is the policy maker now as having loads of tanks are only useful if you are going to invade somewhere. Letting the enemy know you can hit them anywhere on the planet within a short period time is a lot more scarier than parking tanks on the lawn.
