The UN should have voted out Russia much earlier than this and the EU, with other nations, should have put humanitarian missions into the country under the hospice that if they were attacked then we would retaliate in force for any aid workers harmed.Surely now the EU/Nato have to supply jets ffs.
The 'aid' we send to India has never been about bags of rice, medicine or clean water etc for the poor. It's essentially to 'grease the wheels' in a country that is pretty much corrupt at every level. Their relationship with Russia is no more or less duplicitous that western relations with Pakistan. What a disgrace India had proved itself to be - time the nuclear power, rocket launching, wealth disparity country had its aid cut.
Our import of Russian fuel oils will end by December not at least by December, gives importers opportunity to find other sources of supply. Unfortunately our German comrades show no signs of ending their contracts with the Russian regime. We continue to buy diesel from Russia and will do so until at least December
I think it's much more they do what China say, as China basically owns the continent.Yes along with their friends China.
The max range of a HARM missile (used to destroy SAM sites by homing in on the radar emissions) is about 110km. What pilots do on a SEAD mission is fly very low and fast and get into range then pull up and ‘throw’ the HARM missile at the SAM then immediate turn 180km and hit the afterburner. It's down to the missile systems ability to generate a radar track against the aircraft. Anything an aircraft can do to either reduce its radar cross section or otherwise deceive the systems radar the closer it will be able to get to the system without being engaged. As you say, the SU-27 is not a modern fighter jet, and neither are the Polish MIG-29's that Ukraine are looking to try and get their hands on
The problem with long range ground to air systems from an aircraft perspective is that the range of their missiles is generally much longer than anything you could strap to the outside of an aircraft, so even if it gets in closer it can't do anything about it. Plus, these things are VERY fast with substantial warheads, so even if they miss you directly you'll still be damaged by blast.
Even if you were to strap a big long range missile onto the outside of an aircraft you would increase its radar cross section meaning it would be detectable at greater ranges anyway. Maybe cruise missiles would have the legs to reach it, but these systems are also capable of engaging cruise and ballistic missiles anyway so that would be a non-starter unless you employed some kind of electronic countermeasures.
