Using them as human shields is against the Geneva convention & rightly so

Surely that's if they are put on military sites and locations known to be targets. If they are put up in a hotel in downtown Kyiv, it's on putin if decides to nuke it?

That doesn’t respond directly to my point though. I get the illegality of keeping POWs in a specific area to act as a shield, such as next to an ammunition dump, but an urban area is surely too wide and nebulous to be enforceable as a war crime.

This was my point.

You would actually be moving them away from the front line to the safety of the cities right next to the Ukranian public.

Safest place for them, unless there happens to be a lunatic threatening a nuclear bomb in an illegal war.

The Russian public would surely rise up if he bombed his own soldiers deliberately.

Anyhow, it's what I would do.

It wouldn't be civilians using soldiers as shields, it would be the Ukraine government who have an obligation under the Geneva convention and would put the Western governments in a position that they would not be able to support and thus end all support

Lyman is in Donetsk region which was declared as a russian territory yesterday. Today it's back where it belongs in Ukraine. ****, Cossacks just took back your territory. aren't you suppose to nuke them?
