Russian invasion of Ukraine

Gosh you’re an angry chappie aren’t you? In mid 2018 it was well reported that ‘Trump suggested that leaders increase their defense spending to 4% -- doubling the 2% target that many NATO countries have yet to meet.’

I wrote It’s the only thing he ever did or said that I agreed with. I stand by that and I’m not sure why subsequent put downs on my appreciation of NATO funding and Trump motives was really deserved.
That’s not what you said.

Good post. The only thing Trump ever did or said that I agreed with was in 2018 when he pushed for NATO countries to increase their financial contribution to the organisation.
No need for the condescension by the way. Makes you sound like a bit of a dick.

With good reason our Coal and Cotton drove the Empire our men sacrificed themselves on Flanders fields we sorted the ship canal we are the Raven of the Field and you bumpkins can't even get the name right. :-)
And your rain washed away mans sins, .. .. .364 days of rain, 10 hours a day would wash away most things to be fair

The mad thing is, he’s not.

Until he actually got elected he was a comedian who was in a sitcom about someone who accidentally became President.

Then they actually elected him president.

Not a million miles from Boris really, when you think about it…

None of that detracts from whether he is a real leader or not though. It’s your actions and behaviours that do, not what career you choose.

He’s fought against corruption, removing immunity from parliamentary members and tried to unify the factions in the country.

He is absolutely a million miles from Boris.

Another one who hasn’t got a clue how NATO is funded.
The operational costs of NATO are funded proportionally to each members GDP and everyone contributes a fair amount.
What Trump was talking about was individual country’s defence budgets and was deliberately incorrectly conflating it with paying for NATO, then making out that everyone owed the US money. It was bullshit then and it still is. Some NATO members should undoubtedly spend more on their own defence, and they had committed to up their spending to 2% by 2024. I suspect that after this those countries will get their spending up rather quicker than they would have done.
NATO members had agreed to spend 2% as far back as 2006 though, that was Trump’s problem and he was right to raise concerns.

The problem was he raised them in public which undermined the entirety of NATO and probably led to Russian and Chinese confidence.

What the likes of @SWP's back cannot understand is, that Trump was a fucking idiot but the background of his point was right.

It’s been a long-standing conversation within the military.

Or in Boris’s case its more… once a **** always a ****.

I was going to say He’s a million miles away from Boris at the moment, unless it turns out he’s been throwing piss ups during the countries time of crisis.

Although having said that, I do think Johnson has managed this situation quite well so far, apart from literally running away from being asked about Abramovich.

At this point he hasn't cut and run into exile like one of his notable predecessors.

Might just be because of his acting experience but if he is a fraud, at least he is a more convincing one than the fat tramp who throws all his staff under the bus.
