Sampdoria fans in Genoa

I was in shock when I found out they were relegated this season.

I remember looking at the table mid season for betting purposes and they were hardly scoring many but hardly conceding either, looked for all the world safe in mid table.

Must have had a terrible second half of the season.

They had a good side the early to mid 1990s, with Sven managing them I think for a bit of time. The likes of Katanec, Vialli, Mancini and Gullit all playing at one point or another. Parma used to have a good side back then as well. Used to love Italian football back then.

Taking of Italian teams,I was out in Sicily in 94 as part of the Bosnian conflict...Of curse took my City shirt with me. On one of my rest days I wore it at a Palermo home game...Couldn't believe how much they were patting me and the back and saying "manchester city-bravissimo,manchester united-Merd!!!" I soon found out that it meant Shit..Always had a soft spot for them since..Love the pink kit!! Forza Palermo.

Always knew he was a top player but had forgotten the range of quality goals that he scored over the years. He would be worth a few quid these days!

Always love the story about how the Palermo kit colour came about.

In their early days the kit was Red until someone messed up washing it and it came out of the wash Pink, they couldnt afford to replace it so decided to play in it anyway.

Just watched the final of Coppa Italia.

Inter 3 Palermo 1.
Palermo the better team for long periods, just didn't take their chances.
Good turnout from the Sicilian fans.

It's a mad year. Monaco have also been relegated to the second Tier of french football.

7 years (I think 7) and they were in the CL final. Strange times.

I thought it was White tops and red socks and the colour ran from the socks into the shirts? But i could be wrong.

Either way, it's a great story.

That kinda made me want to put him on the pitch :D

I love the guy, I wish I had a video of some of his skills from this year. I seem to remember amazing ball control at a sunderland game :P

Wonder if he'll ever take to the pitch again in like a memorial game or something so I get to see him.
