Savinho | City reject Spurs approach

Doesn't look like sav is going anywhere especially spurs. I was sceptical that levy would stump ip so much money for him - it's not really his way is it going of past transfer windows - he always tends to go for cheaper options

Problem for me is how unsettled is savinho after all this if he stays

only there was a rebuild, We signed 4 players and spent close to £200m

All of whom have largely stank the gaff out relative to what came before.

There was no rebuild on account of the rebuild falling flat on its arse, is what they’d like you to believe.

Don’t fall for the PR, they tried and failed as they did again in Jan, and as it stands probably this summer as well.
No team has got more points than us since January…

Savinho has the same problem Vini Jr had at the start of his career at Madrid, he hits the ball too soft or he trys to be clever with his finishes. Look at Savinho multiple missed attempts last season he goes with finesse, side foot finishes and he just can't do it properly, similar to Vini Jr.

The season Vini Jr improved his finishing he just started hitting the ball as hard as possible into the corner his goals shot up. That's what Savinho needs to do. Club world cup the strike outside the box was hit hard and he scored.

We were/are a world class team the rebuild doesn’t start until we start signing world class players. We seem to be always looking for players with a low buy out clause or players around the 50/60m mark. Instead of buy 5/6 players over two transfers window spend the same money on 2/3 world class players.
Exactly this. Take Livramento as an example. People saying can’t pay 80m for him (still might not have got him) but he is 22,proven in the league against top wingers and would immediately improve us. We’re not paying that sort of money for someone miles better than what we have and could get years or service out of. Whilst we keep spending 40/50m on players who simply aren’t improving our starting 11.

If the reports are to be believed, it was Sav pushing for the move. Really surprised City wanted to retain him in that case, we normally let them go if we get the right price. He posted a pic in the gym after Pep said he was injured didn't he. Might be some conversations behind the scenes, hopefully he has the mentality to get his head down and kick on, as last year wasn't good enough for a title challenging side.

Dont get me wrong I'm 100% with you on the absolute mess we have made of the transfer windows since then.

We have spent over 500m since the treble

And we still don't have a RB
Still no back up, replacement for rodri
Still no replacement for KDB
Still no wide options with proper output in terms of goals and assists
Still no back up replacement for Haaland.

Its difficult to believe.
Agreed about the late, haphazard, desperate revolution, over staged evolution nature of our transfers since the treble.

It's a bit if a head-scratcher considering how dead on their feet our elite squad was as we achieved that great feat. It was obvious then that we needed to start our succession planning & needed a bigger squad too.

I also think there's been a fundamental shift in our formation & tactics, which are now geared toward Haaland, as opposed to the smaller, more mobile & skillful forwards like Aguero & Jesus. Dya remember us getting to the byline & the cut backs to on-rushing midfielders & forwards?

Again I also agree that we're playing with fire not having a dedicated striker to cover Haaland. Have we not learned from Rodri?

I saw a statement some time ago which suggested what we've gained in output from setting up to serve Erling, we've lost in goals throughout the team, hence the call from fans for better goal scoring wingers. But I think the way we've evolved won't get the best out of them, because of the way teams are now setup against us.

We brought in a huge amount of players & a new coaching team, but after the first three CWC matches, we reverted to the tactics which failed us last season.

After our collapse, I thought we'd take stock, fill the gaps where needed & look at how we can better tactically approach games. But if the Wolves & Spuds games are anything to go by, we haven't.

When you compare our fully fit squad player for player against the squads of the Dippers, ArseAnal, Chavs, & Spuds, I honestly think we're as strong as any on paper. But we still need cover for Haaland, a proper RB, a new keeper & to move on several ageing members of our squad. Our new players will also need time to gel & those returning from injury will need time to get up to speed.

We'll know more about our squad make-up come Monday, so many squad questions will be answered by then. We've become used to stability, so the amount of change we've had since January makes it feel like we're stepping into the unknown somewhat.

After a disappointing campaign, we have an ideal opportunity for a reset & a season of transition, but seem to have only partially done so squad-wise because as yet we haven't moved on enough of our old guard so we know who & what we have to play with.

We changed our approach during the first three matches of the CWC which showed such early promise. But since then, we've gone back to the tried & tested formation & tactics which failed us last season, & that doesn't play to the strengths of our wide defensive & attacking players, which I find baffling.

I suppose we'll just have to be patient & wait & see how the season unfolds. Here's hoping...

I'm with you.
Never thought he'd stump up the big money.
Savinho now needs to get his head down and prove his worth and stop acting like a spoilt kid everytime he blazes a shot over the bar, as is his way!

I like him. He's got a ability and is a better option than Doku for me.
But the pair have got start producing the goods, consistently. And that's the key word.

If they don't we need to be moving both of em on.

Lol. Any list that has a past it Son, Garnacho and Madueke on it is about as useful as bog roll made out of extremely thin tissue paper, because those 3 are fucking wank.

Did you ask AI for that list?

No mate, what a bizarre thing to say.

It's a statistical comparison by the people who provide data to football scouts and clubs.

It's actually a boring debate at this point;

Because we've got Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, the Ballon D'Or voters, La Liga TOTY voters and anyone who can read stats to pretty clearly state why he's valued as one of the best young wingers on Earth. So that'll do me.

Pleased he's staying (if indeed he is).

Didn't live up to expectations last season but deserves another year. There's a player there, just got to find out how to bring out the best in him.
Think the expectations were wrong, a 20 year old in a new country shouldn't have had the expectations on him he had,if he'd arrived into a winning team he wouldn't have played or been relied on as much.He arrived into a team struggling and with injuries and expected to hit the ground running,in the end he had good games and bad, got a fair few assists but like most 20 year olds his scoring isn't there yet.Shouldn't expect to see his true level for at least a year or 2.

Good ol FBref. Wish they'd update their UI so it looks less shite, but the data etc is a great reference

He could start by doing some serious leg presses and some squats, maybe help him strike the ball hard enough to actually reach the net? Maybe take up archery to improve his aim as well.

It’s all down to the quality brought in. Doesn’t matter how much you spend if the quality isn’t improved.

Fifty boxes of supermarket burgers will not improve the quality of a meal the same as one £120 wagyu steak. For some reason we keep buying supermarket players and leaving the top quality to Liverpool and Arsenal.

We’ve spent money, just quite poorly. Just one of Declan Rice, Marc Guehi or Wirtz would have made us a better team than all our January panic buys.

Any other club and he is sold.

City hate spurs, it’s that simple.

Don’t rate savio as highly as some. Looks well below the previous standards set by city wingers.

Turning out to be a weird end to the window.
Yep palmer is bad enough but if Sav smashes it at white tops would suggest someone potentially needs sacking.

Sav scores a couple of big goals, it's all love again and we have a top 21yr old Brazilian international winger!

I was surprised Savinho was linked with a move away this summer, I’ll be honest. I thought his development was a project and he’d shown enough promise to persevere with. I’m surprised he’d want to leave already despite the promise of consistent first-team action elsewhere. Of course there are areas for him to improve but that stands true for almost every 21 year-old in the world, decision making and final product can certainly improve with exposure and experience.

Oscar Bobb is a welcome return to the side and he and Savinho should be vying for regular starts on that right-hand side, or Sav could be used down the left if Doku doesn’t show more improvements and consistency to his game.

Savinho, like a lot of players is getting unfair criticism.

The club should have been bringing through players like him when our team was in the ascendency. There wouldn't have been as much pressure to deliver, he'd have been coming into a more settled side to learn his trade and would have been a better player for it.

Instead, like many, he's been thrown in at the deep end as part of a wider attempt to address a complete shitshow in terms of squad planning.

He needs time and we need to be patient.

Rice didn’t want City. Wirtz didn’t want City. Guehi doesn’t want City.
Given that’s true, there’s not really a lot you can do about it.
