Schalke Post Match Thread

Not bad..

  • Guardiola has qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals in nine of his 10 campaigns, with 2016-17 the only season he failed to do so.
  • City won 10-2 on aggregate - only once previously has a team won by a larger margin in the Champions League knockout stages (Bayern Munich 12-1 Sporting CP in the 2008-09 Last 16).
  • Their progression means there will be at least three English teams in the quarter final stage of a single Champions League campaign for the first time since 2010-11 (Chelsea, Manchester United and Spurs).
  • City have scored at least two goals in each of their last seven Champions League games; the longest such streak by an English team in the competition.
  • Guardiola has won all six of his home games in the Champions League against German opposition as manager - his sides have scored 28 goals, while conceding just two in return.
  • Aguero has scored in four consecutive Champions League appearances for Manchester City; the joint-longest run of any player for the club (along with Sterling in November 2017).
  • Sane scored his 50th goal in all competitions at senior club level (37 for his current club and 13 for Schalke).
  • Sterling has been directly involved in nine goals in his last four starts for Manchester City at the Etihad in all competitions (six goals and three assists).
  • Foden is the youngest player to score for Manchester City in the Champions League (18 years and 288 days.

We're a bit shit aren't we.

Sane was brill as was Sergio, Bernie and the whole team in fact but... I think Sterling maybe the best player in Europe this season.. he’s sooooo consistantly good it’s ridiculous.. maturing so well.. upping level after leavel... proper man now :-)

Not to be a Debbie Downer...the Argentinian who has a carpet on his face (Messi) has done some ridiculous stuff this season. However, I agree for the most part. He made his finish look so easy.
Awesome performance. Motm performances everywhere. I confess I have not always been Gundogan’s biggest fan but right now I am advocating kidnapping his wife and kids and holding them until he signs a new contract. Ok I’m joking but he has been great the past few weeks. Zinchenko top class again as was Sane. These two seem to have a really great understanding. Sterling, Bernie, Sergio all brilliant.

What a joy it is to be a City fan. Happy days

Was about to ask if it was John Terry speaking when I saw wife. Haha

Oh and how did 30 or so Schalke fans get seats all together in CB3 by the tv stand ? There were quite a few dotted around, which I have no problem with, but 30 together ? who sold the tickets ?

Near me too. Made quite a racket didn’t they? Tbh, i was fine with it all till the fella behind me thought it would be funny to start chanting “glory glory man united”. Some sense of humour.

Most goals by PL teams in all comps in 2019:

Manchester City - 61
Arsenal - 29
Tottenham - 27
Chelsea - 27
Manchester United - 27
The Red Arrows, The Best Attack Ever In This Universe Or Others™, the mighty Liverpool Football Club La, have 17. 10 less goals than the rags.

VAR (and the idiots in charge of it) will kill the game. I was there and celebrated the first 3 only to then have to wait, for the second goal 2 minutes forty five seconds, before I could celebrate properly, after that it was all an anti climax, yes we won but if you cannot celebrate a goal what is the point. It was almost as if they didn't want to give the goals (off to the agenda thread)

Me too. I wanted VAR as do City but this ruins the moment. The moments you live for. Improvements are needed. The obvious question being if it's clear and obvious, how come it takes so fucking long to decide? It destroys the euphoria of the moment, and that's not football.
