School kids protest climate change

I hate when people blame a generation. My parents had no conscious intention in creating this mess and neither do I and neither do my kids.

There’s a mess. But it exists like we all exist because it does. Blame is irrelevant.

We need to adapt on one hand and try to resolve on the other. It’s hard to see a real improvement happening but I hope it will come - especially through technology and a few truely ingenious people.

It’ll be a roomful if people that’ll save us imo. Not a mass movement. But it only makes sense to back both horses.

I agree but will just say this. In my opinion it will take every individual to completely change their behaviours rather than governments introducing policy as the latter will only be seen as a money making taxation exercise.

Will Billions of individuals care enough to completely change the way they live their lives and make purchases?

Like you i highly doubt it im afraid.

I watched that YouTube in the National Debt thread about banking. Maybe that’ll collapse before the environment does and maybe that’s scarier.

OK now back to the important things like getting out the door with the kids for their sports.

Like highlighting their concerns to the people in a position to do something about it?
If the people in a position to do something about it, actually did what they wanted, ie; demolished all oil/coal power stations,
used solely wind and wave power, they'd most certainly get plenty of time off school, as most would be shut.
What do they expect the government(s) to actually do? Do the above and the economy is completely gone, no more mobiles,
cars, TV's, in fact virtually everything. It's all very self satisfying and worthy but ultimately, it's futile, what would be a more
powerful message would be collectively not using phones, walking everywhere and not flying abroad, using a school day
to bunk off is much easier. Climate change is an emotive subject, for sure, my personal take on it is it is impossible
to halt without population control, because a fast increasing world population is the fundamental reason behind it.

My point is the young people in the country, with their gadgets and addiction to modern day living are in no position to lecture anyone, until they change their own way of life

The point isn’t to stop using tech, it’s whats powering the tech and the government control that.

Investing in renewable energy.

It will also create jobs.

The UK, and Europe and the 1st world already does. (And china etc, is doing it).
But that doesn't keep the lights on does it?

Green energy is only the tip of the green shitberg tbh.
Reduce, reuse, recycle.

Manufacturing, transport, farming are also massive creaters of polution and green energy won't do much for that.

That's already being done, wherever possible, wind and wave can't possibly meet demand, fracking can, and I'm
all for it, no eyesore useless windmills for a start. What do we invest in, other than this, which a lot don't want either?
Walking the streets with placards, be they kids or adult, gives us all something to talk about, but they
need to understand what end product their protests would result in, if implemented.

They need to do it more.

I believe the technology is either there or could be created to the above possible.

We should all be driving electric cars much sooner than the planned last day of petrol for example.

The Green Party’s argument is that the budget for renewable energy should be far far greater than it is and I agree with them.
