Maguire (usually) is mr reliable for England, nothing special I agree, but he does offer plenty of experience and let’s not forget off the pitch experience- there’s a reason Kane gave his captains band when he got subbed.

Midfield selection, yeh maybe - aside the outrage over Henderson I don’t see what more fans want, Rice and Bellingham is stuff of dreams!

Sitting back in big games is not always down to the manager, that’s the nature of football. Opposition sides need to go for the kill and team protecting lead sits back. Happens is most games between two close top sides.

I think many would take your posts more seriously if you ever had any criticism for Southgate.

For all of your comments about those always criticising or insulting Southgate regardless of individual performances, you are also always praising him regardless of individual performances (and overall results).

It lessens your credibility, as you have just become an apologist as much as many of us have become “anti-England” haters, as you say.

Give yourself a slap. Had the opportunity to leave the rags and attempt to rebuild his career, but couldn't agree personal terms. That should tell you all you need to know.

It really easy all simple when you support and actually want England to win.

You take out all the club tribal bollox , sit back, enjoy watching our young lads (usually) win comfortably. I’ve felt this way for a long time under Southgate.

Phillips was ok you know, but he still has a tendency to drift towards an opposition player instead of drifting into space. This creates an oh-shit moment with somebody quickly on him and little time to find a pass. And when he did find space it was usually a pass backwards or sideways. He needs to be much more creative and dynamic for Pep, but for England, and Southgate, it might be enough.

Southgate needs to do the decent thing and stop picking him though. It’s on him.
