He was literally falling to the ground.

Compare and contrast with Alistair Johnson at Rugby Park just before Christmas, apparently no penalty for handball on the goal line as somehow deemed completely accidental (didn't look like it). Punished twice against the old firm under exact same set of rules.
Read my post again. Notably, the "harsh though the decision was" comment.

Can you explain in what way it’s harsh?

A defender stopping a goal bound shot on the line with his hand is a Red.

The first penalty Rangers should have had might be deemed harsh but his arms away from body. In Scotland that’s almost always given

Oh deary me! Dessers with glorious chance and he turns back instead of shooting: ))))

Fuck me. Clear foul in the build up to the third and I'm not even sure they checked var, certainly no mention of a check on sky. Just carry on!

Stuart Findlay : ))))))))))))

Fabio Silva would have been embarrassed by that : ))))

Barisic with hamstring problems. Must be about to play Celtic!!!

Easy Easy Easy Easy….

Another 3 points on our relentless March to a glorious treble!!

Fair point. But he was falling backwards, when the ball hit his hand. I realise the law says that he has to go.

I'm not sure the law says it's a penalty to begin with. I don't follow the line of "making the body unnaturally bigger" when he's literally falling backwards. It's just one of those things, unlucky on Sterling or whoever the Rangers boy was but stuff like that has happened before and will happen again. Not arguing with you btw, just making the point, I don't think the law dictates it has to be a penalty just because the ball happened to be going in.

From IFAB itself:

A handball offence is when a player (except the goalkeeper in their own penalty area):

  • deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm (No)
  • touches the ball with their hand/arm when it is in a position that makes their body unnaturally bigger and when that position is not the result of their body moving fairly as part of play (imo No, it made his body bigger but not unnaturally in the course of his movement)
  • scores a goal against the other team with their hand/arm or scores immediately after the ball touches their hand/arm (even if the touch was accidental) (N/A).

It’s harsh on defenders but that’s the way it is.

Thought VAR worked well today. First penalty claim… referee given opportunity to see it again and stuck to his decision. I can see why he’s given that opportunity and why he stuck to his decision

Tight offside at the missed penalty and play allowed to play out and only after penalty claim is it reviewed

My one complaint RE VAR was the Killie goal. It was clearly a perfectly good goal so why the delay? Need to speed these decisions up.
